That means that your router does not have access through your modem. Connect your computer to your modem and check if you have internet. If you do not contact your ISP.

I have a local internet connection without any modem(by ethernet cable)..i want to connect Netgear WGR614v9 router...can u help me out

You do not want to connect as a router, there is one upstream from you. You want a switch. This is similar to a splitter. Just hook your plug from the wall to it, and then plug each unit in.

If you need Wireless, you would not plug the network cable from the wall into the normal Wan or internet port, but as if it were another computer. Set your wireless security and limit free access.

Sometimes you have to "dumb down" a router to not autiomatically assign addresses, but I doubt it in your case.

Unfortunately routers do burn out and stop working. Sounds like that is what has happened to you. I'm pretty sure that if you went to a place like wal-mart to buy a new one. If it didn't solve your issue you could bring it back. Not 100% sure on the return policies but I'm pretty sure you just need a new router.

WCR-G54 router, wireless access has no internet connection, local only. Why?

If your wireless card in your computer/laptop has not been configured with your wireless router's settings then it cannot connect to the wireless router. That is why you only get Internet connect when you are connect with a LAN cable.
To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

I can't hook my computer up to my phone line for internet. I have my router and another desktop hooked up to the phone line through the router.

That modem is in itself a router. However it only has one Ethernet port and no means of broadcasting a wireless Internet Signal which makes its function of a Router somewhat useless. What you need a(n) (wireless) access point. The Access Point will give you more Ethernet slots allowing more computers to be connected to the modem/router via CAT5 (Ethernet) cables. Depending on if you get a Wireless access point or not you might also be capable of using a wireless adapter to connect to the 2wire and get Internet access.

Let me know if I need to clarify any of the points above or if I can assist you further.

@Daytona21801

You need to change the LAN IP Address of the router. You need to access the router's Setup Page via internet explorer and open 192.168.1.1, no username and password is admin. Look for Local IP Address. Change it to 192.168.2.1 and Save the settings. Do a power cycle, unplug the power from the back of the router for 20 seconds then plug it back in. You should be able to go online now.

I cant get my wii to hook up to the router

Try resetting your router. Do this by having physical access to you router, and there should be a reset button (or hole) in the back of your router. You may need a pin or something very skinny to fit it through. Hold it for 20 or 30 seconds. After it is reset, type in your address bar 192.168.1.1. When a dialog box appears asking you for your username and password, leave the username field blank and type in admin for the password. The router configuration page should load up. Scroll down and change the Local IP Address to 192.168.2.1. Scroll down and click save settings. Atttempt to configure your Wii's wireless internet settings all over. Your Wii should be able to connect to the internet now.
