SOURCE: My screen is frozen and

The Sony Pocket Reader allows you to read on the go, and easily fits into a coat pocket or purse. It is a convenient way to carry books with you, as it is very lightweight and small. Of course, you may encounter glitches with any electronic equipment. If you are having an issue with the Sony Reader,

there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve it.

  1. Reset the Sony Pocket Reader by pressing the "Reset" button on the back with a small pin or paperclip. Turn the "Power" switch to turn on the Reader. This will not affect the content that is stored on the device. If you connect it to your computer before turning it on, the computer will not recognize it.
  2. Give the reader enough time to charge fully when necessary , if the battery life is short. You may need to replace the battery if the problem persists. To do this contact the nearest Sony Service Center. If it has been a long time since you've charged the reader, it will take repeated charging to charge it completely.
  3. Wait a few hours if the reader will not turn on. If any moisture or condensation has gotten into it, it will likely work after you give it time to dry out.
  4. Check that the device lock is not turned on, if you are having problems with your computer recognizing the reader. Verify the "indicating connection via USB" is displayed at the top of the reader's screen. If it is not, disconnect the USB cable, wait a few minutes, and then reconnect it.
Good luck and thanks for using fixya.

I cant charge my e 705 ereader

What are you using to charge it? How old is your ereader?
Are you using a usb cable to computer to charge? Or do you have an adapter that goes in the wall socket that connects to your usb cable.
You may need a new usb cable, or depending on the age of your ereader maybe a new battery.

My Sony ereader touch isn't charging. Pluging it in to either the computer or the wall charger, and the light doesn't go on. The screen is frozen on the last page it turned to.

Hi suebagnall,

If the redlight does not come on, try the following:

1. Connect the reader to the wall charger (make sure you use the Sony Charger ACS5220)
2. Hit the Reset button at the bottom of the reader
3. Check if the redlight comes on
4. If so, leave the reader charging for 15 minutes to see if it takes the charge
5. If this does not resolve the problem, probably you will need to contact Sony to get it repaired

I drained my battering, recharged it, but now the ereader is not responding. I get the opening ereader line, and the 2 arrows turning, but then it jams.

Hi bairdsus,

Looks like the reader is not fully charge, you can try this:

1. Connect the reader to the computer or wall charger, make sure the redsteady light comes on, if not try the "Reset" at the bottom of the reader for 3 seconds then check the light again

2. Allow the reader to charge for 15-30 minutes and then disconnect it

3. Try to turn the unit On/Off and see if now you can access the books now

Note: If you are using any memory stick or SD card, remove them.

Good Luck!

My sony ereader has been plugged in for 2 nights to my MAC, and each morning it still only has 1 battery cell left. The computer detects it and the ereader displays the USB cable is connected. How do I...

Seems like your MAC goes into sleep mode, when this happens, the computer does not supply power to the USB ports to save power. When the computer does this, there is a big change that will drain out the battery of the Reader. You can try this:

1. Connect the reader to the computer
2. Hit the reset button while is connected for 3 seconds (Reset is located at the bottom of the unit)
3. Leave the reader charging for about 40 minutes then disconnect the reader and check the battery meter
4. If you can see that the reader took some charge then leave it connected for 2 hours or until the redlight goes off

Good Luck!

Hi huffasia,

Looks like a charging problem, try this:

1. Connect the reader to the computer and make sure red steady light comes on, if not, then hit the reset button for 3 seconds.
2. Once you get the redlight, leave the reader charging for 15-30 minutes (make sure the computer does not go into sleep mode)
3. After you charge the reader, try the soft reset again and slide the power switch at the top of the unit.

If this does not resolve the problem you may try a hard reset on the reader but this will remove all content.

To hard reset:

1. Hit the reset on the bottom of the reader
2. Slide the power switch
3. Once "Opening Book" comes on the screen, press and hold the directional "down arrow" and the number "0" both at the same time until "Reset All" appears on the screen.
4. The screen will go blank, now its time to turn it on again.

Note: If after trying the hard reset, the reader goes back to the black arrows trying to turn around, then repeat the steps again.

Hope this helps!

I have a sony e-reader prs-600. I plug in the reader using usb to my iMac (which is new) and it doesn't charge. I use a usb to electrical outlet converter (not sure of name) and it doesn't charge. I can...

Please turn OFF the Reader and press the Reset button using a sharp pointed object to reset it.
Next, please connect the Reader directly to a different USB port of the Computer using the supplied USB cable.
Now, please allow the Reader to charge for 2-3 hours and check if it charges. This should resolve the issue.
However, if the issue persists, please try connecting the Reader to a different Computer to confirm if the issue is with the Reader itself.
If the Reader is charging with a different Computer, there might be an issue with the iMac, else, with the Reader.
Note: please ensure to connect the Reader directly to the Computer using the supplied USB cable.

  5. Verify that the Reader displays the USB connection indicator in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  6. Remove any Memory Stick® media or SD media in the Reader.
  7. Disconnect the Reader from the computer, close the Reader library software and restart the computer.
