Question about Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

I have just gotten my hands on a Columbia Masterworks M-5121 Record player. It didn't come with any manual. The radio works on it just fine, but the record player itself does not spin. I'd prefer to fix it myself if I can, I just don't know where to start. I downloaded the manual for the Garrard Turntable for 3.30 but it doesn't show how to get the turntable out of the entire furniture peice in order to examine the underside of the player. I am fairly sure the overall peice of unit has it's own manual, but that I do not have. Any suggestions would be great.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: Turntable failure

The drive wheel has probably dried up and is just slipping. Also, any grease that was in there has probably turned more to glue. This unit will need some TLC and some time to get all of the old grease out. A re-lube as well as a new wheel (if still available) and you will be good to go!

SOURCE: Turntable

You need to connect to the Analog out which is located on the top left of the receiver. If you do not have a Pre-Amp you will not be able to hear the turntable. It is smarter just to purchase a turntable with a built in preamp. they sell for under $100.00. Or if your really smart throw this receiver in the trash and purchase a true two channel receiver with all the necessary rca in's and outs to include a phono plug. These can be had for anywere from $100-$200. This receiver is made more for video and home surround systems than for stereo music systems...

SOURCE: Playing to the end of the record

I LOVED the 40bs, and if you look at the size selector, which is located at an angle to the right side at the front along with the manual or auto setting in the front. There are 4 settings, 78-10, 45-7, 33-12, and 33-7 for the speeds and sizes of the recordings.

You have probably done this, but I had same problem on one I was given with no manual. I couldn't get the turn table to turn and by accident I move the arm to the right, away from record and it began turning. Hope that helps.

I have a Magnavox stereo console: Astrosonic Series. The record player was playing fine until a month ago. The volume is now so low you can hardly hear the record playing

Since the volume of the radio seems to be fine it is doubtful that the amplifier is malfunctioning. I will check the stylus to see that it's fully seated and examine the wires in the tonearm that connect to the cartridge. If they seem okay then I suspect the cartridge may be bad

Columbia walkie talkie wont connect to the other one

Hi,
Are you trying to connect a Columbia to another Columbia or to anther Make of walkie talkie radio?

No two makes are quite the same and slight differences can make all the difference, even if they were the same brand/make, different models can also impact on connectivity.

I hope this answers your query

Cheers,
Peter

Crosley Record Player Stopped Spinning...

I had this same problem with my Crosley 704 and it bamboozled me to no end.

After digging around I dug up the manual online (I bought mine used so I didn't have one to consult). It turns out the record stops when it gets to the end, and to get it spinning again you have to lift up the tone arm and move it right (past the holding latch) until it clicks, and voila, it starts spinning again, ready for a new record.

You'd think that they coulda made it more obvious :(

B & O Beocenter 4600: The record player won't spin

the turntable wont spin unless a record is on the platter, the centre 45 adapter weighs the record to determine 33/45.try pressing 33 and turning the platter by hand(remove expensive cartridge first!),if it starts to spin the motor leaf switch is at fault.is the belt in position.the motor pulley can become unglued.

Recording songs off the radio

This is the worst mp3 player ever invented - i have to tell you this up front. There is no driver, the company does not support the product anymore - I would return it now while you still can.

Either the device is bad, the pc port is bad, or the software is faulty. Try connecting to different usb port, then a usb port on a different pc with a compatible os. If still not recognized, then there is physical damage to player.

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
