Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have a Whirlpool cabrio model wtw6600sw2 and coins left in pants pockets keep ending up in my drain pump. finally to the point of buying a new pump because the housing is cracked and leaking and the impellers are all eaten away. Is there a filter or something i am missing to avoid this? otherwise this is a **** poor design.

Washer Repair Boise - Whirlpool Cabrio Pump

I've replace many pumps on the whirlpool Cabrio and most of these washer pump failures could have been prevented by removing coins from pockets. Many times coins will make there way to the outer tub and get sucked right into the pump to create a rattling sound. That rattling sound you hear is the impeller spinning against the coin. Since the impeller is plastic, it doesn't take long for the impeller to wear down. Just a tip, please remove coins from pockets. You'll save money and time :->.

Go on utube and search for this issue. It will show you how to disassemble the machine and get to the problem spot. Easy to do just did it last week. Stupid design flaw

During the wash cycle it seems to hang up and will not advance. At this point there is a growl in the machine. After a little time passes 5d showed up on the timer

the drain pump has failed & needs to be replaced. the propeller on the drain pump breaks off but stays loosely on the shaft while it is still spinning smashing into the filter and this is your noise as well as a coin or two or nail or hair clip one of these kind of things would have come out of someones pocket in the wash made its way down to the pump and broke the flimsy plastic propeller.

I have coins down in the tub causing loud noises during drain. What is the best way to get them out?

I have the same problem with my Cabrio, coins sneak into the ejector pump. They make a heck of a racket when the machine drains.

You need to:

1) Disconnect the plug and the hoses.
2) Tip the machine forward, it's easier to work on. Put the styrofoam shipping ring back in the tub, it keeps things from rattling around.
3) Take the back off.
4) The ejector pump is at the bottom right (as seen from the front.) You need to remove the discharge hose, it's held on by a spring clamp. I've found that vise grips work well for this. Slide the clamp up the hose, then pull the hose off.
5) Remove the clamp from the front of the pump in the same way.
6) Remove the pump. It's held by 3 screws, then pull the pump off the input hose. Tip the pump down, the coin should fall right out.
7) Put the hoses back on before screwing the pump back in. The hoses have an index mark that match up on the pump so you can't put them on crooked.
8) Put the back on.
9) Wonder why Whirlpool left a space big enough for coins to drop through, and really search the pockets when you do the wash.

Washer doesn't drain just buzzes

Most likely you have a coin stuck in the drain pump. Mine did the same thing, and we removed the drain pump, then removed the coin and it began working again. Just be sure to check all pockets for coins as this is a big problem with the Cabrio washers.

Cabrio drains water onto floor.

I took the back cover off of the machine and found that the drain pump had a hole in it. The hole was caused by a coin that had made it's way down to the drain pump. The replacement pump cost $90.00 and was very easy to put in. If you google the words cabrio tear down you will come across a web site that has a video that shows you how to take the pump out. I have not had any leaks since. Keep the coins out of the washer, remeber to check your pockets to avoid paying out cash.

LD is on my display-nothing will clear it and washer doesnt drain

the ld code means a long drain, what you probably have is something blocking the drain pump.
you can get to the drain pump from the back of the unit and it will be the pump on the left as you face the back.
you will need to remove the hose going into the pump and be ready for water to come out. sorry but you need to check inside the hose as there will be something blocking it. like a coin or some lint or a small sock.
when you get the item out of the hose then it should work again. you do not need to reset the control. once it knows the unit is draining properly it will be ok.
