Question about Power-Sonic Belkin 120Whr F6C900-UNV UPS Backup Battery by Power Sonic (24V Lead Acid 6 cell) (OEM) (F6C900UNVBUP2455FR) UPS System

2 Answers

I have a Belkin F6C900-UNV battery backup that died reciently. I figured the batteries were dead, so I replaced them. I made sure to properly connect the new batteries and insert them gently into the device. I pushed the reset button and plugged in the unit and let it set overnight. The next day, I pushed the on/off button for more than 2 seconds and nothing happened. There was never a burning smell from the unit, so I am perplexed. Is there a hidden reset or a weak point in the wiring that could be causing the problem, or is the unit just dead and not worth fixing

Check the big white battery power connector to make sure the metal tabs are making a connection to the female connection when pluging in the battery to the ups. If the tabs are not aligned the battery is not making a connection to the ups and will not engage the relays in the unit. Again check the metal connections in the male connector to make sure the flat tab is aligned with the female plug when connecting the plugs together. I could not get my ups to power up and the reason was because when I connected the battery the tabs in the plugs were not making a connection and the ups was not getting the voltage from the battery that it needed to power up the relays. I checked everything in the ups and then I looked closer at the battery connector to make sure the ups was getting the power form the battery and it was not electricaly connected to the ups because of the large white connector tabs were not aligned to connect to each other.

Hope this helps!

If the device is over a few years old, then the batteries are probably dead. If so, they can be replaced. Below link shows some photos of the device once opened.

What doies it mean if the unit turns itself off, resulting in a loss of power to my electronics?

Most likely your battery is dead in the UPS. Replace the battery if you can. Belkin should be able to help you with that.

Belkin 1500va (uses 2 - 12v 7ah batteries)

check out this picture, it shows the 2 batteries wired up.

Notice that the batteries are flipped opposite of each other.
So from left to right its: bottom red, bottom black, top black, top red

Between the 2 batteries there is 1 red to black connection.
Then black to black-wire to circuit board
and red to red-wire to circuit board.

Belkin UPS F6C900-UNV burns up after replacing the battery.

I just replaced the batteries on my Belkin F6C900-UNV. They died just short of 3 years of use, which is what I would expect. My unit contained two 12 volt, 4.5 amp-hour batteries that were connected in series. When connected in SERIES (one battery's red terminal is connected to the other battery's black terminal), the two batteries behave as if they were one 24 volt battery. Therefore, this UPS is designed to charge a 24 volt battery. When replacing the batteries, you cannot use a single 12 volt battery. This will fry the battery. You can use either two 12 volt batteries connected in series, or one 24 volt battery.

I measured the charging voltage of my two new batteries (connected in SERIES), and find it charging at 24.6 volts. This is an ideal float voltage to maintain these sealed AGM (absorbed glass mat) lead acid batteries (13.2 volts per battery). The replacement batteries are similar to the originals, each measuring about 2.7x3.5 inches and 4 inches high and rated at 12 volts, 5 amp-hours. They can be purchased for $20 or less each, so for $40 I now have a fully functional UPS, good for another 3 years.

My model FC6120-unv is dead

If you've got nothing my guess is its something more than the battery as it should still be able to draw power if its plugged in. If its within the warranty period (3 yrs, I believe). Go to the belkin webpage and to their ups support and start the process to return it and get it fixed/replaced. A couple months ago I had a F6C500-UNV that suddenly died on me just like yours - no nothing. It cost me $13.00 or so bucks to ship the broken unit to Belkin; a week or two later I got a brand spankin' new F6C550 or whatever they currently sell in that same voltage area back from them. The cost to RMA the broken unit was much cheaper than even buying a new battery for the old and now discontinued unit.
