Question about Lakewood 798240 Utility Heater

2 Answers

I have a Lakewood Commercial Heater, model 798/240. The thermostat control needs to be replaced. I am looking for replacement parts. Lakewood has closed its doors and is no longer available when you call its help number. The two appliance parts dealers that are mentioned on the 1-800 number say they have no parts. Any suggestion on where parts may still be available or where to look?

Have you tried appliance parts pro .com? Also some hardware stores carry thermostats for other models, and they probably can be susbstituted. Have you looked at E-bay for a used heater for e parts? This could be cheaper than a new thermostst. Ilooked and there were some parts and several old heaters that claim they all work. Try them and let me know if you need more help.

I have a Lakewood Model 750 Strip Heater and the caution light is lit. How do I get the unit working again.

chances are the thermostat has been damaged due to excessive heat or corrosion has accumulated on the connections coming from the temperature dial. it is possible to bypass this component but not advisable, if you choose to do so, please monitor the heater at all times and be sure to unplug it while not in use. replacement parts are still available.
do not attempt to service the heater while it is plugged in to an electrical outlet.

Need a thermal cutoff for our Lakewood 5500

We have these heaters and haven't had a fuse fail yet. I think it's because after the first time I got that crackling sound after moving it while it was on, I stopped doing that, and only move it with the power off, and wait two minutes before restarting it, so the oil can resettle.

However, the thermostats are now failing. Anyone know if this part is available?

Lakewood space heater thermostat source

No I never had any luck and the parts likely 1/2 the cost or more of a new one at wal mart and the heat element would still be old too

Cycles on and off after reaching desired temperature

The problem sounds like the thermostat which is probably a bimetal strip. It sounds like the bimetal strip is just constantly bending one direction then the other. It could be possibly adjusted by bending it -- this would be a trial and error process.

Or, it could be replaced.

Heater pops the circuit breaker

Lakewood 5500 Heater - Here is a picture of the rear side of the open heater thermostat with the two switches for 600 and 990W at the left. The 3oz metal piece is the weight that broke off from the thermostat assembly. It fell down and made a short between the case and the power switch. There is a visible burn mark where the short occurred.

I am convinced that if the heater ever falls over, the metal weight will break off and fall down and probably create a short against the case. It may disconnect the 120V power at the thermostat or cause a high enough current to kick out your breaker in the house.

The attachment of the 3oz metal weight to the back of the thermostat is not strong enough to survive when the heater falls over; it wil break off.
