Question about Bosch 9.1 cu. ft. / 258 liter Upright Freezer GSU29424GB

Open Question

Hi - I have a Bosch GSU29424GB/02 upright freezer. Recently it has started to look like it is not keeping cold enough as the relevant temperature light will flash (for hours). There is little evidence of food thawing...perhaps the bread at the very top is slightly soft when it does this. My thoughts are that it is either the thermostate or perhaps something is triggering to go in to frost free defrost mode for frequent and extended periods. Anyone got any advice...and/or can I repair this myself if I can get parts Thanks Jonathan

Sounds like a refrigerant charge problem.

SOURCE: I have a Bosch Exxcel

I would first try a complete defrost, by removing all food, unplug the freezer and let the door open for two days, (you can take the opportunity to clean the inside ha ha!) this is to make sure there are no ice build up around the sensors, than re connect the power and let it freeze up again, (on hot humid days the automatic defrosting cycle has difficulties to perform), don't forget to empty the water pan under the freezer (if equipped) and to put many towels around the bottom as well, it could leak some water on the floor... if the problem persists, than have it checked by a professional technician...

SOURCE: We have a Bosch upright freezer GSN32A20GB.

I mikeg386,

The Freezer is getting to warm, and not able to reach the desired temperature of -22 degrees.

First off, I'd change the setting to between -16 to -18 (You do not need more cooling, anything above that is going to consume too much power to reach, and too much wear & tear from the compressor - that is why it is hot)

Then I'd check the condenser piping at the back of the fridge for any fluff or dust buildup. Remove these with a vacuum cleaner. Alos check the seals on the door for any signs of perishing, if cold air escapes from the door, it will struggle as well. A nice tip is to poor boiling water over the seals to allow them to expand.

Leave your fridge for 8 hours and check it again, should be OK then.

Kind Regards

Freezer is not cold enough . I cannot seem to find the mechanism that controls the temperature.

You need to check first that there is no leakage of your gas in your compressor system thats responsible for cooling the refrigerator. If you have the manual you an read it to locate the regulator

I have a 4yr old 13.7 cubic upright frigidare freezer. Running all the time, I defrosted it recently (only minimal frost/ice on base behind basket) after noting top shelf warmer than others and food...

Hi, Put a thermometer in the freezer and see if it gets down to 0 to 5 above zero. If it is not getting that cold, something is wrong. If you had frost building up behind the rear panel, there is a defrost problem.
Please let me know the temperature and I can assist you further.

Need a freezer for garage in the Dakotas

Refrigeration units don't care for the most part how cold it gets with exceptions. The oil is not a concern, neither is manual or auto defrost. Refrigeration units that are required to operate in cold temperatures, say below 30 degrees F. have crankcase heaters on them to heat the oil which keeps freon moving out of the oil and the bottom of the compressor. Otherwise when the compressor starts the cold freon will we sucked out of the bottom of the compress with a large quantity of oil which can destroy the compressor. Another item used for cold weather application is a fan control sensor which keeps the condensing temperature up or the unit will again remove the oil from the crankcase. It may work fine for a quite a while, but it will fail in continuously cold temperatures.
