BT from my experience have poor speeds
my girlfreind lives in a rural area and they cant be bothered upgrading the phone lines and telephone exchanges in her area

the fact they used to make a million pound a second and still make massive profits just shows how pathetic they are

you are best switching to fiber optic with virgin media
fiber optic has none of the problems you get using ADSL2 on bt lines
Plus most companies rent BT lines so switching to another BT based provider will probably not result in increase in speeds

with BT technology the further you are from the telephone exchange, the slower you are too

When I'm having a conversation on the blu 6.0 phone when I'm listening to the person. they sound so distorted and how can I clear that distortion up so I can hear properly

Most of the time when you make calls via the internet, you need a good connection. Check your connection speed here -
Speedtest net by Ookla The Global Broadband Speed Test

Then check what speeds you are paying for via your internet service provider (BT, Virginmedia etc)

If you are getting poor speeds then I would suggest calling them and asking why.

How do i activate my bt sports

After ordering BT Sport and setting up a BT ID, you can watch online at btsport.com and on the BT Sport App. First though, you'll need to activate your BT ID for access to the app and online player. Look out for an email containing an activation link that you need to click.
Please bear in mind that only the account holder's BT ID can be used to log in to the app and online player. You can download the app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
The BT Sport App will work with:
  • Apple devices running iOS 6 or later, and
  • Supported Android devices running Android OS 4.1 ("Jelly Bean") or later
Search for 'BT Sport' in the app store, select the app, and then press the download button.
Your pc also needs to run Silverlight from Microsoft to use it.
see this page.
To watch the online player on a desktop computer you'll need to install Microsoft Silverlight. This is a free browser plug-in that you can download here: www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight.
The BT Sport online player will work on the following browsers: Windows PCs
  • Internet Explorer 7 or above
  • Firefox
  • Some people have reported problems with the match centre on Internet Explorer 7. To fix this, we recommend that you upgrade to Internet Explorer 8 or above. Mac
    • Safari
Watching online at btsport.com requires a minimum line speed of 400kbps. You can test your broadband speed and find out how to improve it if necessary at www.bt.com/help/speed.

What can i do to fix the lag on youtube?

If all websites load slowly - check your internet connection speed at speedtest.net - for normal youtube video watching >2Mbps download speed is sufficient. The solution is changing the video quality on the youtube screen to least possible 360p or even 240p to run smoothly on 1Mbps.
If only youtube site opens slowly, while other sites open quickly - your internet provider might be cheating in order to save usage of bandwidth (video sites take 50-90% of the total internet bandwidth). Make a complaint to your internet provider, supervising authorities, or even change for another - better internet provider

Bt say my broadband speed is 2.6 MPS. Internet speed tests repeatedly say its about 365KPS. BT say the problem could be my D-Link DSL Router G604T. Is this likely, please? The router is about 3 years...

Assuming your connecting wirelessly, test it by directly connecting to it with an ethernet cable and then run a speed test. If it dramatically improves, you have a wireless problem ( router, wifi card, poor reception, etc.) If it stays about the same, probably poor speed from your broadband provider.

Netgear router dg834gt

Have look in the router settings for the actual internet connection speeds, as these are a more true reading than the speed check as the speeds can vary at different times of the day and 2 or 3 speed checks can bring different results. your actual connection speed that is showing in the routers settings is the connection you are getting from your ISP. If you are with BT they usually recommend using their latest routers, why i'm not sure, as the only thing i have noted is that the MTU is set at 1500 (Maximum Transmition Units)and in other routers the MTU is automatically set at 1493, so look for the MTU setting and up it if necassary, but not above 1500, also double check all the settings, even put the bt router back in and see if speeds improve, if, you know the BT router is set up purposly for faster connection speeds. Also try checking your speed at a speed test site at a quieter time of day, you will also see different speed check sites give you different speed results.
