Have you considered NOT connecting your camera to your computer? The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa (http://picasa.google.com ).

You have two options. You can go to the support section of the Panasonic website, type in the model of your camera and you can download the software to your computer. Or....just use a card reader to download your pics to a folder you create on your desktop. That's what the pros do. I lost the disc, to - typrice_163.jpg

That works for the pictures, but what about the videos? I have the same problem and though I can get the pictures to come through, the videos simply won't transfer over onto a PC in any way. I have tried plugging the card directly into the computer but I get nothing. Panasonic can replace my CD but it will take 2 - 6 weeks before they can get it out because it's on backorder. I tried going to their site to download but it says I have to have the original disk to do what I want to do. Any help on that issue is so much appreciated. Thank you.

I have lost my installation Disc for my Lumix DMC Zr1 - how can I dowload another one?

You don't really need it. Pros never use the camera to computer connection for downloading pics. They use a card reader and download to a folder they create on the desktop. Once there, the pics can be sent to any program you want.

I need to recover deleted pics

I have had success with this... Download Asoftech Photo Recovery program
http://www.asoftech.com/apr/

You have to use a card reader either on your computer or an external USB card reader. Put the card in the card reader, open the recovery program, then select the drive where files are deleted, then press "Start" and wait for it to do it's magic.

Panasonic Lumix Simple Viewer & Photofun Studio Viewer software

If you google your camera model, you will find a location to download software for this camera. The Panasonic Support site is a good starting place..

Kodak has a free photo viewing an touchup software downloadable so you will use their printing service. Another is Picaso by Adobe. Both of these are easier and better than those supplied with camersa. Even Microsoft XP or Vista computer come with a good viewer. Go to Start/Programs/Microsoft Viewer(or some such).

Unintentional initilizing!

They may not be gone.
I was told to go to a video production store, like that do weddings and see if they can retrieve your info from the disc.
It will cost you, and don't think that Canon or your disc manufacture will reinburst you. They won't. I tried.
Because we thought we lost everything too!
I think there is a defect in the camera itself or the manual is not telling you everything you need to know.
