Question about Lenovo Computers & Internet

1 Answer

While using the internet (firefox) a message popped up saying a threat was detected asking to fix it now or remind me later, my partner clicked remind me later. The internet then closed down and a lot of my programmes were missing from my hard drive, I had been using firefox, AVG Free and windows defender all of which will no longer run on my laptop. I seem to have lost some admin rights too, when in control panel I clicked add or remove programmes but it popped up control.exe and would not let me open it. I have tried shutting my laptop down numerous times but it doesn't seem to help. Can you please advise?

I'm not sure if that would help go ahead and try system restore and see what happens.......
If it happens to be the same result then you would need a windows vista or seven cd (OR whatever windows you have to reinstall the windows.)
If you have the cd then I would be glad to follow you through the steps .....
Now where to get they... one word " torrents "

Compatibility problem?

What does it say ?
are you on the internet when it pops up ?
Internet pop-ups can be an annoyance.
These windows are usually associated with different forms of advertisements and at times can include viruses that can infect the computer.
Pop-ups do not have to be a part of computer use if the user does not desire this distraction. There are ways to stop pop-ups and prevent them from appearing unless desired.
Pop-up blocker allows the user to block these items and select which items to allow. Open Internet Explorer.
Click "Tools" from the menu bar. Tools can be found on the bar that lists "File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, Help" directly beneath the address bar.
Click "Internet Options" from the "Tools" menu.
Click the "Privacy" tab in the "Internet Options" box.
Click to check the box that says "Turn on pop-up blocker" in the "Pop-up Blocker" section of the menu.
Click "Apply" to save changes.
Click "OK" to close the "Internet Options" box.
The computer will now block all pop-ups from websites.
If downloading items from the Web, the computer will ask whether you would like to allow these items to be opened.
IE: 8 right click in the top toolbar select the command bar this will add it to the toolbar then on the far right hand side select the tools then from the drop down list pop up blocker make sure its turned on and settings

hope this helps
It's easy to learn how to stop pop ups, and you don't need to download pop up blocking software to get rid of those annoying ads. Just try these easy fixes before downloading a pop up blocker.
The first three methods assume you can use the software you already have. It's quick and simple, and you won't need any add-ons with these methods.
It takes only a few minutes to stop pop ups yourself, even if you are not technically oriented. If Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) or Mozilla Firefox on a Windows Vista computer but these steps should work for any Windows compatible computer (although it may vary some if you have a different version of IE).
Here are four easy and quick ways to stop pop ups on your computer. You can use any one (or more) of these methods to get rid of those pesky pop up ads within minutes.
How to Stop Pop Ups - Method #1: Use Your Settings on Internet Explorer 7
Step 1: On Internet Explorer 7, go to "Tools", then "Internet Options"
Step 2: Click on the "Privacy" tab
Step 3: On the bottom, under "Pop-up Blocker", click the checkbox to "Turn on Pop-up Blocker". Click "Ok".
How to Stop Pop Ups - Method #2: Use a Different Internet Browser (Firefox)
Try using Mozilla Firefox instead of IE because Firefox automatically blocks pop up windows (unlike Explorer). You can download Firefox at
How to Stop Pop Ups - Method #3: Use Your Web Toolbar
You may already have the google or MSN toolbar installed on your browser. If you try this approach, you may also want to read my articles on how to stop pop ups with your Google toolbar and MSN toolbar.
How to Stop Pop Ups - Method #4: Download a Paid or Free Pop Up Blocker
If you've tried the above steps, and you're still having issues, then you should consider downloading a pop up blocker program.
Two reliable free pop up blockers include the Google toolbar and MSN toolbar. Another popular paid pop up blocker is at
For everyday pop up blockers, the above methods should work. However, if you've tried all of these suggestions and you're still having problems with persistent pop-ups, then it's likely that you have been infected with spyware.
Summary of How to Stop Pop Ups
First, try changing your IE browser settings to block pop ups. If you have Google toolbar or MSN toolbar installed, then you already have a pop up blocker installed along with it. Try using the toolbars, or try switching to the Firefox browser.
Finally, you can also download a pop up blocker (free or paid). It's easy to stop pop ups without having to download pop up blockers.
If these steps do not remove your pop ups, then you may want to download a free or paid pop up blocker.
If that fails, then you probably are infected with spyware, which must be removed in order to get rid of ad pop ups.
But the above four methods should work to stop most pop up windows.

Sometimes when I click on the Internet Explorer icon, and error message appears in front of a blank web page. The error message says "Internet Explorer has stopped working. Click to close program". When...

Try a scan with your virus scan, then with a malware scanner, i use Malwarebytes.
I would then use CCleaner, use the registry cleaner also.
This will clean out all your temp files, and remove any registry errors that may be causing IE from starting properly.
You could also use Firefox, or chrome as your browser if this does not fix it

Pc really slow to resond pages from internet time out suposed lots of faults to fix supposed faults on regetry.

tep 2 Here are two tricks I want to share with you before we get into the tools.

The first one is Add/Remove Programs. I also included this feature in the Step above. You reach this feature by go to: Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. If your problems occurred right after you installed a new program, find that software you recently installed and click on it. A button should appear on the right-hand side which says either Remove or Change/Remove. Click it. Follow the prompts in order to uninstall the program.

The second trick I want to tell you about is Removing Temporary Internet Files.
Open Internet Explorermag-glass_10x10.gif and find Tools. Click Internet Options. Under the General Tab and the heading of Browsing History, click Delete. A new box will pop up, click Delete All. Check "Also delete..." box and click OK.
To do the same in Mozilla Firefox, open Firefox and choose Tools. Click Clear Private Data. Put a check in all of the checkboxes and click Clear Private Data Now.
What this does is remove temporary files that your computer automatically saves when you browse the internet. It's designed to make browsing faster by storing already viewed data for use later when the same information is accessed again. The problem is that it is a hotspot for viruses and infected files. Also, there may be a lot of these files depending on your settings and if you have ever done this process before. Cleaning out this folder will make our future virus scans quicker and save us a lot of time.
Step 3 Now it is on to the tools. I have mentioned the "free" aspect a few times in this guide and it holds true. However, the next program is not free to everyone, but it's important enough for me to include.
Also, I introduced you to Safemode in a paragraph above. After installing and updating but before running scans with the programs below, start your computer in Safemode and then runs the scans. This will allow the programs to remove threats that it may have problems removing otherwise in normal mode.

Mozilla Firefox
If you have never heard of Firefox, you are missing out. Think of it as how Internet Explorer should work. It does all of the same things but better. It will open quicker and keep your computer more secure. Download, install, and say goodbye to Internet Explorer.

Everytime I try to open Internet Explorer 7, a message pops up saying, "BUffer overrun detected!" and it won't let me use the internet. Please help me!

I think you may have an add-on that is crashing IE. Can you get into IE at all? If so - click on Tools >> Manage Add-Ons and disable any add ons. IE 7 also has a "no add-ons mode" which you can get to via Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools, and then click on Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).

Scan your PC with some ad-aware removal tools. Ad-Aware & Spybot. You can download them on another computer and save them to a disk or USB drive. It might also be worth checking Control Panel >> Add/Remove Programs to see if there's anything in there that shouldn't be.

My personal recommendation is to use Firefox in future. But make sure you scan and fix the problem, and then Immunize, with Spybot first.

Hope this helps

Internet explorer

Ugh, I never liked Internet Explorer because of both its limited capabilitys and limited user interface issues. I suggest Firefox, because i have used it since the very first version after having problems of similiar nature with IE. Otherwise, it may just be the fact that the website you are trying to download the files from are just so over-worked with massive information requests that they cant handle the total requests and ask that you try again later.
