Question about Compaq Computers & Internet
sounds like a USB problem. If there is a short or damage within the
port the computor will detect it and prevent it from starting. Usually
it's a USB port you always use. This may help, Plug in the mains charger
and remove all USB devices. This will confirm weather its the computer
or a USB cable/device.
If the computer still doesn't start, get a bright light and a
magnifying glass and look inside all the USB ports on the computer. In
the middle of the port there is a flat plastic piece with 4 metal
contacts attached to it. Check to see if they are bent, twisted or
flattened in any way and with a pin or other suitable pointy device,
attempt to straighten any damaged contacts. If you cannot get the
contacts aligned, just try to get them away from each other and away
from the wall of the port, then insert a piece of card or folded paper
above and below the contact strip and tape them down. This will insulate
the port and stop a reoccurance of the problem. You should find the
computer starts (with a few complaints from windows) normally. this has
worked for me 9 times out of 10 for this problem.
