I had a problem like this and apple said that you need to re-authorise your iphone on the computer again (it doesnt take any more of your 5 allowed authorisations up) I did this and then restored my phone again and it has been fine since. It seems like it is something to do with new (and probably over-zealous) additional security that apple have added on to the i-tunes update. try it and see it has got everything working again here. If you have found your ipod music not loading or other applications not working then the same thing needs to be done to resolve this also!

Tip

How to restore a troublesome iPhone 3G!

If you have an iPhone 3G that is causing you problems or errors when you are trying to restore then hopefully this information can be useful to you.

If you are struggling to get your computer or iTunes to recognize your iPhone then put the device into recovery mode. To put the device into recovery mode, plug the iPhone into your computer, open iTunes, then hold the sleep button and the home button together for ten seconds before releasing the sleep button. Contine to hold the home button until iTunes pops up and tells you that a device has been detected that needs restoring.

Click restore and iTunes will download and restore the latest firmware to your device for you. Once the restore completes you can set up a new phone or restore al settings from a backup of a previous phone.

If after restoring you get an error message and your iPhone displays a plug into computer logo then we must go through some more steps to get your iPhone going.

This section is for users of 32 bit Windows, which is the majority of people. Download the iRecovery and libusb-32 package and install the libusb-32 file. Move the irecovery.exe file to C:irecoveryirecovery.exe

From your start menu go to Run and type cmd. Press enter and you will be presented with a black box with a command prompt. At the command prompt type C:irecoveryirecovery.exe -s and press enter.

Once your iPhone has been found you will have another command prompt. Now type the following commands:

setenv auto-boot true
saveenv
exit

Once again reboot your iPhone, holding sleep button and power button until the Apple logo displays, this time your phone should boot up into the normal iPhone interface.

With a bit of luck you have just restored your iPhone 3G!

I would like to downgrade firmware on iPhone 3G from 4.0 to 3.1.1 Please help

There is no 3.1.1 firmware version available for the iPhone 3G. 3.1.1 is only for ipod touches. To downgrade to 3.1.2 (http://modmyi.com/forums/downloads/firmware/6/iphone-3g-3-1-2-32353/) or 3.1 (http://modmyi.com/forums/downloads/firmware/6/iphone-3g-3-1-32183/), download from either of the provided links, go into iTunes and to your iPhone tab, shift+click on restore for windows, or alt+click restore on mac, navigate to the downloaded file, and open it. Your phone will restore to the downloaded firmware.

Got unlocked iphone, tried to restore factory settings now its stuck on bitten pineapple...any help plz just got this phone?

Hi,
Here u can follow the steps

Step 1: Make sure you have downloaded the latest version of iTunes if you haven’t already. Download iTunes 8.2 from the link given below.
Step 2: Now connect your iPhone with your PC. You must connect it to a single usb port on the backside of your computer. Do not use any usb hub or the ports in the front as this could cause an error during update process.
Step 3: Start iTunes 8.2. Sync your iPhone with your PC so that iTunes backs-up all your important data including settings, apps, music, contacts and photos.
Step 4: You will now have to download a custom cooked firmware for your iPhone version (2G or 3G). I can’t post the download links for these files for the reasons you all know very well. Just Google “iPhone 2G Custom 3.0” (If you are using iPhone 2G) or “iPhone 3G Custom 3.0” (If you are using iPhone 3G) and use one of the torrent links to download the custom created .ipsw file.
Step 5: Once you have downloaded the required .ipsw file, Copy/Paste it into this location:
“C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates\” (Windows 7)
“C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates\” (Windows Vista)
“C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Update\” (Windows XP)
Step 6: Restart iTunes. You will now be prompted to install this firmware you just download. Just close this prompt dialog by clicking on “x” from the top right-most corner of the window.

Step 7: Now you will have to restore your iPhone to this custom firmware 3.0 that you just downloaded. Click on your phone from the sidebar in iTunes to get to this screen as shown in the screenshot below:
capture2_thumb.png
Now press and hold left “Shift” button on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update) button in the iTunes and then release the “Shift” button.

This will make iTunes prompt you to select the location for your downloaded custom firmware 3.0. Select the downloaded .ipsw file and click on “Open”.
Step 8: Now sit back and enjoy as iTunes does the rest for you. This will involve a series of automated steps some of which are highlighted below:
asd.pngafasf.pngggg.png
Don’t do anything silly at this point. Just wait while iTunes installs the new firmware 3.0 on your iPhone. Your iPhone screen at this point will be showing a progress bar indicating installation progress. After the installation is done, iPhone will restart automatically and you should now have a fully unlocked and jailbroken iPhone 2G. iPhone 3G on the hand will only be jailbroken, not unlocked. iPhone 3G users will have to wait for Dev-Team to release ultrasn0w on Cydia in order to unlock their phones.
Step 9: Once you are done with the unlocking and jailbreak process. You can now restore all your settings, apps, music, contacts and photos to the newly installed firmware version 3.0 by restoring the backup that you made in Step 3 from iTunes.

Feel free to ask me any question here should you run into any problem during the update process.

IPhone 3G Error 0xE8000001

Where did you purchase your phone? however, you first need to update itunes to 8.0.2, that might solve your problem. Unless you have an unlocked phone then restoring your phone is useless because when you restore an iphone with itunes in the US without an att sim card it will actually lock the phone, but I do not think that is your issue. the two things you are seeing the connect to itunes and the emergency call system means that your phone is not properly activated. which is done by connecting it to itunes.

IPhone 3G Error 0xE8000001

I just had this problem and it turned out to be... It didn't like my iPod cable. Switched to the iPhone cable and it worked.
Seems to be an iPhone 2.0 prob, or 3g prob, since I was using the iPod cable to sync my old iPhone just fine.
