    You usually get an error message if that happens? Do you? Or does it just stop somewhere in the middle? How much memory is on your computer? And what size hard drive?

It may not be easy to find one but you can try using an external usb CD drive. (May or may not make a difference.)

I'm trying to move files from old computer to new computer.

The easiest way is to use an USB memory stick, plug this USB memory stick into the XP computer and copy the files from the XP computer to the USB memory stick, then remove the USB memory stick and plug it into the Windows 7 computer and copy the files from the USB memory stick to the Windows 7 computer.

hi You need to get a Windows XP from someone and follow these instructions: Windows could not start because the following files is missing or corrupt \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM or \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SOFTWARE
1. Insert and boot from your Windows XP CD. 2. At the first R=Repair option, press the R key 3. Press the number that corresponds to the correct location for the installation of Windows you want to repair. Typically this will be #1 4. Enter in the administrator password when requested 5. cd \windows\system32\config 6. Depending on which section was corrupted: ren software software.bad or ren system system.bad 7. Depending on which section was corrupted copy \windows\repair\system copy \windows\repair\software 8. Take out the CD ROM and type exit

Ntldr is missing, press any buttom to start

Hello, NTLDR is the main file of windows XP to boot it properly. You can recover this file without installing the full windows XP. Follow the given steps to recover the NTLDR file from windows XP CD.
First insert the Windows XP bootable CD into your CD-drive and reboot your computer. When your computer prompted a message to press any key to boot from the CD, press the any key.
Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows and now log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key then pressing enter.
Here you will be prompted for your administrator password, enter your that password then copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example you are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter "E" to drive c. This letter may be different on your computer.
google_protectAndRun("ads_core.google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);

copy e:\i386\ntldr c:\
copy e:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\

Once copy both files, remove the CD and reboot your system.

Thankyou

I am a victim of software counterfeiting.my windows did not pass windows genuine validation.

This means that the version of Windows XP you are using is not a genuine copy.
This happens when you install a copy of Windows XP which does not match the serial key you used for installing.
Your Operating System (OS) has been blocked.
I advise you to immediately remove this copy of Windows XP by installing a genuine copy.
You can either buy a genuine copy or borrow a genuine copy from a friend and install.
You can use a copy which has already been installed on another pc and you will not have any problems as long as it is a genuine copy.

Need file asms to complete installation

The problem is some files in your installation cd cannot be read anymore.

Options:

1. When the error appears try to redirect the wizzard to the directory of your CD ROM and locate the file.

2. If you have back up copy of your xp cd use it to replace the xp cd you are installing when the error appears.

3. If you have a copy of your xp installer on your hard disk re direct the wizzard to that directory.

CANT GET WINDOWS XP PRO TO COPY FILES TO A GX280

The problem is the driver for the sata hard drive. You would need to get that from the dell site and put it on a floppy disk, then at the start of the windows install select to install that driver. I ended up just installing the rc version of windows 7 and it worked out fine.

Hello, I have 2 Operating Systems in a computer namely Windows XP(SP3) in C:\ & Windows Server 2003 in D:\ . I've deleted the file BOOT.INI accidentaly form X:\ drive(X:\ means all drives like...

Hi,
That's not a virus. Boot.ini is a default file needed for Windows OS to boot.
Fortunately, you can recreate the boot.ini files

This is a sample of the above Boot.ini file with a previous installation of Windows 2000 on a separate partition. [boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

Simple way to add operating system on a separate partition:
At the command prompt, type: bootcfg /copy /d Operating System Description /ID# Where Operating System Description is a text description (e.g. Windows XP Home Edition), and where # specifies the boot entry ID in the operating systems section of the BOOT.INI file from which the copy has to be made.

Windows XP winsrv.dll file won't install

hi bcookie11,
if your windows xp installer is a legitimate one, return it and ask for another copy, sometimes, the cd is faulty, that is why you can't copy some files from it.
