What type of computer do you have? Are the USB ports 2.0 or 1.0? Have you tried the drive on another computer?

I am not computer savy and don't know the answer to your question. How can I find that information? I haven't tried it on another computer as I have no access to another. Also it keeps making a clicking noise every few seconds and driving me nuts.

Flashdrive clicking is not a good sign. As for checking it on another computer. Most library's have computers that can by used by the public. I would check that out quickly and make sure to have a second drive to copy information to if you do get access again.

How do I backup files to my Freecom external hard drive XS 3.5 ?? Ive installed it but cannot workout how to use it !! there are no manuals !!

you can open Computer on your screen and then there is C: drive and Freecom labeled to it. Open first the C drive, click Ctrl + A to highlight everything. Then click Ctrl + C. Then go back to Computer and click Freecom. Then click Ctrl + V. All the files will be transferred to Freecom. Then you may proceed for your next step. That is how you back up files.

Laptop cant find external drive

Is it just a new plug in USB drive? If so try assigning it a different drive letter on another computer Control panel - Administrative tools - Computer management - Disk Management (in left hand panel on XP) - Then change the drive letter. ( it will say that some programs may stop working - this is if there are programs or shortcuts on a computer that already point to data on the drive as they will still be looking for the old drive letter. Don't change the drive letter if the external drive is full of stuff.) This process has worked for me

Mac cant read files on an old external drive

Evidently, MAC and Windows are not compatible. All you need to do is to download and install a software for your MAC to handle file/s from Windows. Thank you.

My computer has found new hardware for my freecom external storag

It should automatically allocate a drive letter to it. Go to windows explorer and hit F5 to refresh the display and you should see a new drive letter with the name of FREECOM next to it.

Freecom network drive corrupted

Sounds like it needs re-formating.

You might try> http://www.freecom.com/ecSupport.asp

Look through there to see if they have a utility that can sort the problem out....
Or a FAQ section where there might be a bit of help with the problem...

These drives need to be in open air or they can overheat and stop working.

Right click on the F:\ ,click format.

Look to see if the details of the drive are in the window.

Capacity ? 150gb ? or something close.
File system NFTS ?

If these details are there you can format the disk again.

Freecom 400GB Hard drive not recognized.its a Freecom mobile drive xxs 400gb , my pc just cant recgnize the hard drive

I'll assume your using Windows.
I'll assume it's a USB drive.
I'll assume it is an external drive.
And I'll assume it's formatted as NTFS.

Try using the USB (or FireWire) port for anouther drive to see if that is the problem, if it is then reinstall the driver for the port, through the Computer Managment Concole (assuming yur using windows).

If you formatted the drive as FAT, re-format it as NTFS.

Hello patsyzara

(01) 1st, for now (as a precaution against data loss), please, don't add or delete anything to or from that external HDD (hard disk drive)

(02) Just to make sure, the photos and not just a catalog of the photos were originally stored onto the external HDD, yes?

(03) Do you still have access to the computer where you originally had the external HDD connected at the time you encrypted the files (photos)?

Even if the protected files were on the same external HDD that you are using now, the protection software is possibly associated w/ the computer on which the files were fist stored.

(04) Please, tell us exactly what mechanism (the name of the software, etc) you used to originally encrypt these files.

(05) Did you recall if you used software that came w/ the external HDD to encrypt your files?

(06) Please, tell us the the following:

(A) The operating system that was installed on the previous computer you're referring to. (Windows 2000, Windows XP, etc.)

(B) The model number of your Freecom external HDD. (look for a sticker or any markings on the case).

(C) The name of the encryption software if you can remember.

(06) If you still have access to the original computer, connect the external hard disk to that computer and tell us if you can see the files again.

(07) If you can, decrypt the files and then transfer the external HDD to the new computer.

If you need assistance w/ ANY of these steps or have any questions at all, comments, observations, etc., please, post back here w/ them. We will continue to work w/ you on this issue until it is resolved or we reach an impasse.

Thank you
BJ @:)
