Question about Dell Inspiron 1000 Notebook

1 Answer

Abnormal shutdown, cannot restart

OOOkay, I know nothing about computers or their set up, so I am looking for the recovery or operating system disc. None are obviously the one I need: I have Drivers and Utilities Wireless, and 2 utilities discs: (for re-installing Cyberlink Power DVD andSonic My dvd) II sounds like with no recovery disc there isn't much I can do short of taking it in for repair, and since I've become disabled my funds are stretched, I fear this could k=lead to a fairly expensive fix. Thanks for your assistance.

O.k. I did a little more research into a fix for this, and found a couple things that you can try and read. I also found that this could be that the hard drive has failed and may need to be replaced. Hopefully you will be able to fix it without replacing anything, but you will definitely need an operating system disc. The Stop 0x000000ED is an unmountable boot error code. This could be a bad connection with the hard drive or hard drive cable on the motherboard, so, you might also try removing the hard drive, and blowing out with air, or open the cases and check the hard drive cable where it connects to the board. Here are the links for the thing to try and read. Let me know.

Did your computer come with a recovery disc, Windows disc or have you create a recovery set of discs?

If after reading all of this you find yourself overwhelmed or unwilling to try, take it to a shop.

Another option to the below copied from the Help section to reach the Recovery would be to open the Control Panel. If Category view, under System and Security, select Back up your computer, then Recover system settings, **Then Advanced recovery methods. If in Icon view, select Recovery and you will be at the ** above. There's where the discs above will come into play. If.you don't have any of those, you will have to hope they have a hidden partition on the drive containing the recovery which will either show itself there or in the F8 process below..

To open the System Recovery Options menu on your computer 1. Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer using the computer's power button.
2. Do one of the following:
*If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.
*If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to repair, and then press and hold F8.
3. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Repair your computer, and then press Enter. (If Repair your computer isn't listed as an option, then your computer doesn't include preinstalled recovery options, or your network administrator has turned them off.)
4. Select a keyboard layout, and then click Next.
5. On the System Recovery Options menu, click a tool to open it.
