Chances are that the battery can be bad. You can call into the manufacturer and have them replace the battery. It should fall into the 1-yr battery warranty that 99.9% of manufacturers have. No battery should go out that fast. I say that it was faulty.

Have a read of the trouble shooting guide here,

It sounds like a fault with the charger. Test the charger output with a voltmeter to confirm correct operation. IF OK then check the wiring , fuse, switch conections between the charger and the battery.

Any battery will lose the ability to take a charge if left unused for over a year. Replace all the batteries, charge them fully, and re-charge them at least once a month.

My hp G60 has developed, what I assume is a battery problem. It shuts down suddenly even though the battery indicator shows 85% remaining. It works fine when plugged in. The laptop was purchased in January...

I have approximately 6 or more of the HP G61 and DV6series laptops which use the same charger and battery. Your warranty if one year so don't expect HP to cover it. However, it you bought the computer using a gold or platinum credit card, your credit card company doubles the manufacturer's warranty. But even if you didn't have this solution, you can go online to Ebay and find lots of batteries for far less than HP that are just as good or better for less than $30 including shipping. I even have a 9600 mAh battery for extended usage and this can be purchase for around $45. Note that this is larger than the original battery and protrudes from the bottom surface although it fits perfectly

As long as we are on the subject of laptops, I would also like to add two more important comments. Heat dissipation is always an issue in laptops and it is strongly recommended that you not put the laptop on surfaces like beds, sofas, etc. that hold heat. Instead a hard surface or even better a laptop chiller that has fans and is powered by a USB port.

A final important recommendation for ALL PC users. As more and more of your professional and person efforts move to your computer, the important information you have is in danger if you do not have some backup strategy. Data can easily be backed up by almost any backup solution. But backing up your system and software is more complex. My preferred solution is Acronis TrueImage. This should support all internal drives, external USB, firewire, eSata drives. You can even backup information to a server on a wired network.

In first place you still have the dell warranty because you have use the notebook for only 6 month, but the explanation that states indicates that your machine has a virus, I suggest to take the machine to a rapair shop. Good luck

Short backup time

Suspect battery failure/faulty cell in a batt
Remove batts and check outside unit
charge up to around 2.27V/cell then check discharge on each batt (12V car lamp is good dummy load)
faulty one will be obvious.

Check you manual for safety procedures, BEFORE working on Batteries.

hope this helps

thanks for using Fixya

Battery backup time is 1 min when capacity is 100%(4 months older

The Batteries are the most likely course of your UPS backup problem. The batteries cell may have been weaken with Age or loose contacts. Check to confirm the battery contacts are not loose, replace the batteries with good one.You can also check the strenght of the batteries by using a Multimeter and load to read the voltage of the batteries outside the UPS. If the battery voltage drops below 10V Dc on load the the batteries should be replace. Otherwise check the battery contacts.

My kin-1200 ap doesn't charge the battery properly.

The reason for this is that the UPS, is unable to efficiently charge those BIG batteries, you see they generally only charge at a low rate, anyway, of say 10% - 15% capacity, of the-battery-usually-charged. Now with these BIG 40 Amperes by 2, well, there simply isn't enough "Juice" to charge them up... (Oh it might do in a month or so)... from that UPS's Charging Circuit. You will most likely have to rig up some other higher rate charger for those BIG batteries. OR modify the charging circuit IN the UPS. They need to be charged at about 1 Amp or maybe more. See it is simply Charge over Time... 40 amps at 1 Amp will take 40 hours.. 40A at 2A = 20H & so on. If only 1/2 flat 2A over 10hours.
