Thanks again, but I can't run anything on it, as it no longer exists as far as my pc is concerned. It doesn't appear to be receiving any power.

How to access my Buffalo HD-PNTU3 external hard drive?

dropping it while turned on is fatal as it usually damages the write heads and/or the platters.
if it hit the floor, changes are it's physically damaged the mechanism.
recovering data from a drive with this damage is not cheap as you will have to send it away to be rebuilt. It's impossible to rebuild it yourself.

I cannot read anything on my buffalo HD-PE250U2. What's wrong? It works fine all the time till yesterday.

Try different cables, then try to open the unit and plug in the hard drive directly into the machine to see weather ti drive itself has failed.

My buffalo external hard disk can not read since yesterday, I/O device error. previoous was working fine. Do not know why? my Buffalo external hard disk model :HD-PX320U2

it is a PNP (PlugNplay) device. Try using a different cable to connect to your pc. Should the problem remain, hook it up to a different computer and if it doesn't see the drive, it will be an electronic circuit failure inside the box. The data is still on the hhd but you will have to obtain a new circuit to bring the hhd back online for use.

I got a Buffalo HD-PET500U2 external hard drive two months ago..I've a lot of files on it and I've used it yesterday. I didn't drop it or anything but today when I tried it in it would start making these...

From reading on the Buffalo web forum just now, you need to try using a different USB cable. If that doesn't work, try using the device on a different computer. If it continues to not work, then the device has failed in some way.

Contact Buffalo as soon as possible to request an RMA to replace the drive ( Information on Buffalo warranties are available here: (

If you have data on the drive that you absolutely have to have, then you may want to consider sending the drive to a data recovery service like DriveSavers. There are many drive recovery companies available. I not DriveSavers as an example and because I have experience with them.

Thanks for using FixYa.

It was working fine but since yesterday "there is no sound" today although picture is good

check your leads. scart leads are the usual suspect but check the input lead to tv on both tv and receiver.
