Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

My refrigerator is set at the coldest setting but is only mildly cold. And, I think it's been like this for about the last 48 hours. What do I do? Do I need to call a service repair person?

If your freezer is cold enough you probably have a defrost issue. check and see if there is frost build up on the back or bottom of freezer. If so then you should call a technician, unless you are comfortable taking things apart.

Costway EF21967 ice maker won't make ice/temperature never goes below 24 degrees/Doesn't sound like compressor is on/brand new/water is only Mildly cold/Display looks correct/Any ideas?

Unplug unit. Turn cold control to Off.
Open unit (door) and let it defrost for 4 hours. Close up.
Plug in. Turn cold control to coldest and listen for compressor. If not running, then a defective control, safety or compressor. Return for warranty repair.
It's possible the unit froze up initially, usually due to low refrigerant charge. It should have defrosted itself. Slow to make ice at 24 degrees. Ought to be near zero or at least below 10 degrees, I would think. If it doesn't perform after the defrost attempt, box it up and return.

The bottom freezer is not getting cold even though I set it on the coldest setting. The refrigerator is not getting cold when I set to the coldest temp.

If there is no cooling at all , check to see if compressor is running, if not check for power at compressor if no power see if themostat is open

GE TFX26KRDA WW 2001 side by side refrig/freezer w warm fridge

Cleaned the condenser coils which were dusty but not severely so. Checked the evaporator coils which were NOT iced. Reset the fridge to coldest setting and freezer to #5 (mid range of temperature) and waited a full 36 hours. Fridge temp is 40 F and freezer is about 0F. Not sure what is different except coldest setting on fridge. Warm weather is here but not warm enough to require AC. Temps in late afternoon in house about 77-80F. Any thoughts are appreciated because I suspect this problem is not completely resolved.

You have a defrost problem. Refrigerator gets cold via freezer. If blocked with frost, will restrict cold air into refrigerator.
