The manual is incorrect. Memory is under keyboard. There is a small hole to the left of the right speaker. insert a paperclip vertically into the hole and apply a slight amount of pressure at the same time sliding the plastic section to the left. It should be obvious at this stage. then fold back keyboard. 2 memory slots are located under the plate near the middle of the unit. Specs say max of 2 x 512MB modules. they are PC2100 DDR266 200 pin SODIMM. If there is someone else reading this maybe they can tell me what the slot is for under the smaller plate to the right of the memory compartment.

Cheers.

I have a compaq presario sr202nx I have 512 memory ram I want to add more or change it. Can it be done and is it one that can just slide out or is it attach to motherboard?

I assume you mean a "sr2020nx"?
If that is the case then your system supports up to 2GB of memory. Up to 1GB in each slot (2 x 1GB).

The RAM stick you bought is either incompatible with your motherboard, or it is a lemon from the factory. Did you perhaps buy this RAM off of ebay or other such site? Make sure to buy RAM online from online vendors like newegg.com, tigerdirect.com, zipzoomfly.com and amazon.com. Too many super-cheap parts coming from china being sold on certain sights. Buyer beware. If you can, send the RAM you bought back for a refund.
I'd like to tell you what kind of RAM is supposed to be in your motherboard, but you didn't list the model of the motherboard. AGP 8x is a type of standardized slot for video cards that they put on motherboards. It's not the name of the motherboard itself.

I am wanting to upgrade the ram on my mothers computer. She has a Phillips Intel pentium 4, cpu 3.06GHz. Can anyone tell me what type of ram and how much it will hold?

Access the Phillips web-site, and do a search, based on the model-number, to see what type of RAM (DDR, DDR2, DDR3) is supported, and what the largest size per stick of RAM that the motherboard supports, and to see how many slots for RAM exist on the motherboard.
Open the case, to count the number of installed sticks of RAM,
and to count the number of empty slots for RAM.

Or, just take the computer to any computer-store, and have them open it up, do the counting, and do the research on your behalf. Then, buy the RAM from them, and they will install it, usually for free.

IBM instructions for installing memory modules is that they must be done sequentially starting at DIMM 1. When removing them to upgrade should I then remove DIMM 2 first, and then remove DIMM 1, and...

It shouldn't matter what order you remove and replace the RAM cards in. The instructions are saying to populate Slot 1, Slot 2, and then other slots in order; don't skip any slots, in other words.

Asus M2V890 motherboard supports max 2GB memory per specs. Is there any way to increase this, or am I stuck with 2GB?

2GB is enough for the MB you are using, if there are no more slots on the MB then you cant increase them.....every slot has a MAX limit of RAM card that can be installed, check the MB specification....i guess 1GB per slot is the MAX...so 2 slots...2GB

Your laptop can have up to 1 GB of memory. You should have two slots and you can install 512 MB per slot. Your laptop is using 200 Pin DDR PC2100 266 MHz CL 2.5 SODIMM. You can also install PC3200, but your laptop will clock it down to 266 MHz.
