Checkout the settings of the movie player and disable the option like 'fit to window' or select the aspect ration if available. This should fix the aspect ratio.
Also, you can download the latest version of Media Player Classic (K-Lite Codec) FOR FREE
It is a small but a very fine Media Palyer which also installs all the required CODEC and you can play all audio - video files. While playing the videos in Media Player Classic, you can easily adjust size, height, width according to the preset options or according to your needs from numeric keypad, (Num lick turned on) and pressing the respective numbers keys. e.g. 9 to increase the size, 4 to decrease the width etc.

Hope it helps! Good Luck!

Check for the setting of the player you are using and lower the zoom value if you can ,if not then it is normal as the full screen option does the stretch to fit the screen.

My kids were playing with the buttons on the tv, and itseems like the picture is now "stretched" vertically - the tops of heads are cut off, and it seems like some of the picture is missing from the sides....

there should be a zoom, or strech, or even the letterbox option somewhere. What your describing is a enlarged picture that doesn't fir the screen, like if I select zoom on my remote.

I cant get the whole picture to fit the screen. When I watch games the score is cut off.

This is most likely a setting on your TV, like stretch, or fit, or possibly on your cable box, or dish receiver. look at your dish or cable box settings and turn off any screen adjustments. Example under wide screen setting is strech , zoom, letterbox (choose letterbox).
The TV has these settings as well.

Sanyo HT30744 Aspect Ratio Help

Do you still have the original remote? If so there is a button that says "Pix shape" that will change your aspect ratio for you. If you are watching something in HD it should say "full". If it is analog it will say "normal" in 4x3 format. If you want it stretch hit it till it says "zoom 1" or "zoom 2". If you don't have the original remote I am not sure how you would change it. You can find them on ebay if you need one. Hope this helps.

Optical zoom problem in movie mode

Your camera is not broken. That's by design. Canon cameras do not allow optical zoom use while in movie mode. Canon claims that using the optical zoom in movie mode would cause excessive noise in the movie. However, you can use digital zoom in movie mode. You'll need to go into the menus (press the menu button) and turn digital zoom "on" if it's currently off.
