You mention the compressor over heating. Compressors are protected internally by a thermal overload embedded in the motor winding. Some units do have a second overload for low voltage, but that's not normal for smaller compressors. If the capacitor is a metal can and has swollen up, replacing it may solve the problem. All of this is on the line voltage side of the system though and should not have burned up a low voltage over load. Before trying to start the compressor, disconnect its wiring and test each of its connections to ground. A burned up over load on the low voltage side is a different problem and tests. Let me know how you are doing. I will explain further tests if you need me to. Please rate this response. Roger

    Hi Roger
On the top of the compressor their are 3 wires under a cap. One to run one to start ,one to common. The wire to common has a device the schematic calls a overload it sits under the cap that covers the wires on to of the compressor. The cap holds this device to the top of the compressor.. this device is fried.
The symbol on the schematic looks like 2 fish hooks stuck together at the hook ends. It says Klixon on top of the device.. It looks like it was to open the circuit when the compressor got to hot. This is a Carrier model #52CQ501204.... AC-- Heat Pump. This device is about the size of a twist off cap from a soda bottle with wire terminal plug slots on top.. Coffee pots use something like this to regulate the pot warming plate temp. It reminds me of them.

SOURCE: I have purchased a new capacitor to replace the

those little clips are hard to find (sort of) but I would think Home Depot, Lowes, or any hardware store would stock them.

if not - you can always go to an 'air conditioning supply house' (wholeseller) - or an 'electrical supply house.' (fyi most wholesellers will sell to anyone, but not at a wholesale price necessarily).

good luck!

SOURCE: Wiring compressor

The two terminal cap is only for the new fan motor. Connect the compressor wire back where you found it, on the 3 terminal cap. It's the terminal marked, "herm". The "common" terminal on the 3 terminal cap must still be connected to one side of the 220 power at the contactor. One side of the 220 goes to the common on the compressor. The other side of the 220 goes to the run winding on the compressor AND the common terminal on the 3 terminal capacitor.

SOURCE: Have carrier heat pump that buzzes

What exactly does it do? If it buzz and don't turn a starting capacitor will not help, this is an indiction of a shorted motor.

Could be; age, lightning, power surge, defective wire, loose wire, tight compressor. Capacitors fail sooner or later. They are like batteries they do not last for ever.

Imperial 40 ignites but does not extend flames into heating tubes. Burns only fron

It sounds like your gas line either is clogged or your heating tubes are clogged up with oil/dirt/gunk? You can blow these out with a small hand held compressor or if you have a small enough brush, you can use that to clean it. The compressor is the quickest way, but have you cleaned this unit at all? Using a fryer boil out and running the fryer will also help clean out your holes, but again, the compressor works best.

Our model is a ED2PHEXMT .. bought 6/2003 Woke up in the nite to terrible plastic burning odor from the frig. Took it out of the house and removed the rear cover this AM ... the "relay"(?)...

Good day,
Sounds as if the relay burned up, or the compressor shorted out. Yu can remove the relay by unclipping the cover and pulling it off the compressor pins. The part should be available at any appliance parts house selling Whirlpool parts.
However, it could as well be a shorted compressor that burned the relay out. I would suggest you call a professional to service it. They have the equipment to test the compressor.
If the machine is under 5 years of age, leave it alone. The compressor is still under factory warranty.
Call your selling dealer for details on a warranty service call.

LCD projector spots showing up on the screen

there are light filters behind each lcd panel that determine the color of light going through it. because of excessive heat and dust, the filter tends to burn and cause discoloration in the image. if the image is bluish (cyan), the red filter is burning. if it's yellow, the blue is burning. if it's purplish (magenta), the green is burning. the filters will need to be replaced. unfortunately, many companies don't sell individual parts of the optical engine, so the entire engine might need to be replaced.

Kenmore 80 series quit heating after burning smell..

Any kind of lint or cobwebs on the element would cause a hot spot and fry the element or pop the limit that is mounted on top of the chamber. What your hubby soulda done is take the machine down and vacuum it out after sitting up so long. The fuse is not blown because it still runs so it must be the small guy pictured. It mount up top of the heat element chamber.ff8b5e7.jpg
