Question about Samsung NC10-14GW Notebook

1 Answer

Hi, i have the ramnit-g virus on my samsung nc10 which is spreading itself all over my laptop and causing avast to constantly block the contaminated files, which is causing most programs to fail, and internet to not work. after a lot of research ive found the only solution is to format the laptop, but i have a few problems, 1) the laptop's default screen is completely broken but the external screen doesnt load from boot, all i see is the login screen when it loads. 2) i have no startup disk (or disk drive)..

The Samsung NC10 can boot from a USB memory stick - you may have to press the F12 key to select to boot from USB rather than the internal disk drive....If you go to http://www.avg.com/gb-en/avg-rescue-cd you can download a copy of the AVG Rescue CD which comes in 2 versions, one for CD and one for USB - download the USB version and follow the instructions on the AVG web site for how to put this on the USB memory stick.....Boot the netbook from the AVG USB memory stick and use that to help remove the virus infection.

Hi,
did you try using Microsoft Security Essentials?
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download
If you don't want to do so:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx
Click on Download Now, it won't actually install anything, it will just scan your PC, and after it has done it, the file will delete itself.

I have been having nothhing but problems since being purportedly infected by the ramnit virus. I seem to have lost control of the computer at logon, since Norton 360 apparently decided that every startup...

Not your average virus, this malware injects code in legitimate files similar to the Virut virus and in many cases the infected files cannot be disinfected properly by your anti-virus. When disinfection is attempted, the files often become corrupted and the system may become unstable or irreparable. The longer Ramnit.A remains on a computer, the more files it infects and corrupts so the degree of infection can vary.

Ramnit is commonly spread via a flash drive (usb, pen, thumb, jump) infection where it copies Worm:Win32/Ramnit.A with a random file name. The infection is often contracted by visiting remote, crack and keygen sites. These type of sites are infested with a sm?rg?sbord of malware and a major source of system infection.

The general consensus is that Ramnit.A cannot be effectively disinfected, so your best option is to perform a full reformat as there is no guarantee this infection can be completely removed. In most instances it may have caused so much damage to your system files that it cannot be completely cleaned or repaired. In many cases the infected files cannot be deleted and anti-malware scanners cannot disinfect them properly. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of malware, the best course of action is to wipe the drive clean, reformat and reinstall the OS.

Sadly, this means that even trying to back up still accessible files brings with it the risk of reinfecting a new installation and also obviates the further use of any infected removable media.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. Good luck axle

I have a hard time installing AVAST free anti virus download because I am a beginner, can you teach me how to download it safely my PC has no virus protection up to now. Thank you for your assistance.

you dont want avast, it has horrible reviews, besides later on it will slow your computer, and eventually deem itself as a virus, most people dont need virus protection unless they are constantly downloading from shady websites

Possible Virus and Malware

There is a good chance that you have a virus or malware. It does not matter these days what security you have if the door to the web is opened. At the end of this are three links to programs that you should load up and run. The first is MalwareBytes Ant-Malware Tool, another is Avast Anti-Virus 4.8, the third is Threatfire.
Run MalwareBytes first and perform a quick scan, when it finishes, it will ask you to show the results, click on “Show results, all infections will appear in red. Delete everything it finds.
Run Avast and install it, when it asks, go ahead and schedule a pre-boot scan of your entire system. This should get rid of most problems….Now, if you have Norton Anti-Virus, internet security or any of the others, they also be causing some of your problems. They will have to be removed and the only way to properly do that is go to the Norton site and download their Norton removal tool. Run this before installing any other kind of ant-virus. The Avast 4.8 is free to use, just register it once a year, that is all…it will update itself 2-4 times a day to keep its virus definitions constantly updated, you do not have to do anything, it is completely automated and has 7 real time scanners that run all the time.

When your boot time scan is over and you have either deleted or moved the infection to the chest as Avast recommends, now run Threatfire…it will ask you to let it update as will Malwarebytes, do so. Threatfire monitors every web page on the world wide web and lets you know if your tap dancing where you shouldn’t, it will throw a flag up and say abort connection…do so to save yourself from a bad situation. The pc keeps switching itself off

Computer Switching off can be many problem.

Method 1 : Overheating of the system

System automatically shutdown or restart by itself when it's overheated due to Dust or dirt contamination in order to prevent hardware burn out.

Open your Notebook which is little tough to explain as it is different for all models.
and get it clean with an Air Blower mainly near the Processor area, check the CPU cooling fan is working or not.Get it clean too.

Check now if the system is working fine.

Method 2 : Malware, Trojan, Virus infection
Malware, Trojan, Virus infection can caused a system to repeatedly restart or shutdown as they infect svchost.exe or explorer.exe.

Scanning the system with a good antivirus like Norton,Kaspersky internet security 2010 or A-squared Anti-Malware or Avast Antivirus with their lastest updates install can solve the problem.

I perfer you check out the method 1 first.
