First check the boot drives to make sure that the computer is not trying to boot from a different drive to the one that contains Windows.
check that there are no CDs or DVDs 3 1/2 inch floppy discs
in the CD/DVD,3.1/2 floppy drives ,and no removable usb drives plugged in to the usb ports
Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA
the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
hope this helps

My laptop getting slow and slow.. how do i reformat my computer??

Just get an Operating System CD/DVD, you want to format with, place it in your CD/DVD drive and make a computer reboot. When the computer will restart, during the pre-booting process, it will show "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD". Now press any key to start the formatting process (But before that, be sure, you have CD/DVD boot option ON in the BIOS settings).
Now follow the on-screen instructions. That's all.

Today when i was installing windows 7 and the setup was just started i found an error- 'cd/dvd driver missing'... i have already format the c drive so System can not even boot up... please help me...

Reseat the CD/DVD drive. Reboot and go into the BIOS setting to see if the CD/DVD drive is detected.
If not then the CD/DVD drive is faulty and needs to be replaced.

It's most likely the nvidia graphics chip. Bad connection caused by getting really hot and cooling over and over. Many times this issue manifests itself with actual video related issues or no post. Other times though, things like wireless and detection of the optical drive. Nvidia chip needs to be reflowed. Do it (or get it done) right or it won't be long before it happens again. Also, replace that heat pad on that chip with a copper (or least aluminum) shim with some artic silver. Assure good contact and keep your cooling policy set to active on battery and ac. This is probably beyond the scope of most, but if you're skilled enough to remove the motherboard yourself you may be able to find someone who can do it for you. And you'll probably save at least 50% on labor since they don't have to do the disassembly/assembly.

How do I enable the drives on my Gateway 505GR?

Enter BIOS SETUP.
Change the "boot order" to put the CD/DVD drive as the _first_ boot-device.
Save/Exit, insert the CD-ROM containing the Operating System, and your computer should boot from the files on the CD-ROM.

Hello, check the drive properties. Simply right click on My Computer and select Properties. Go to Hardware->Device Manager then double-click on your virtual drive to open a new window and point to properties on it. Check in the bottom for a check box "Enable digital CD audio for this CD-rom device" and try to enable it or disable it.

DVD doesn't open

This problem may be a bad cd/dvd drive. When the computer boots up, go into the BIOS setup. Check to see if the computer recognizes the drive, and make sure it is not disabled. Next, check in the "device manager" to see if there are any yellow question marks or red X's. This might indicate a driver problem, or a misconfigured drive. If these steps fail to resolve your problem, replacing the drive would be your next step. This is a fairly easy task, and worth the time to research the steps for your particular model.

I cant install vista OS on this MBD , by sata HDD

You must enter setup at boot and select the CD/DVD as first boot. Then ensure that the BIOS settings have SATA enabled. When CD/DVD is first boot watch the screen for 'press any key to boot from cd' message is displayed. The boot screen will say how to enter setup. Typical buttons are F2, Delete, F1, F10 -you did not say which manufacturer. OEM trumps mobo maker with BIOS setup.

Hi 1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then press ENTER. 2. Locate and click the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom 3. To disable automatically running CD-ROMs, change the Autorun value to 0 (zero). To enable automatically running CD-ROMs, change the Autorun value to 1. 4. Restart your computer. NOTE: This method disables automatically running CD-ROMs. If you want to disable automatically running CD-ROMs depending on the CD-ROM that you insert in the CD-ROM drive, you can press and hold down one of the SHIFT key while you insert the CD-ROM. This may help. Good Luck
