New Graphic card gives me a blue screen (or shuts pc down) when I go to play a game after 5 minutes or so and then recovers to reboot. Hello, I have a 2.8 gb CPU/1.5 gb mem/IBM ThinkCentre a50p 9183/windows XP and I replaced the power supply from 230 to 500w and put in a new amd radeon 9600 XT graphic card (256 mb) so what's the problem? Can anyone tell me what I can do to play games? Thanks Catherine

When you install the graphics card did you download the drivers for it? and second! is the card a replacement or an upgrade, if it is an upgrade it needs to checked to see if your motherboard will support it, otherwise you are going to have all kinds of problems.

Try reinstalling the drivers from AMD. If that doesn't help the problem, use a program like GPU-Z to monitor the temperature of the graphics card. If a graphics card overheats, it will shut the computer down giving a blue screen.
If it ends up it is overheating, try taking the side of the computer while you're playing a game or installing another fan.

Make sure that you have all the latest drivers and that they are for the correct video card and operating system. They can be downloaded here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_xp.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.13&lang=English
If you are still experiencing issues, make sure that all the cables are plugged in properly and that the card is seated in all the way.
Hope this helps.

no you got it my freind just take the gfx card out (when the power is off and its unpluged)

Video cuts out suddenly, have to reboot

Check to see if your video card is excessively hot. It sounds as if your video card is overheating and going into thermal protection.
A lot of times, when the GPU is damaged it will overheat as one of the final signs before it's impending death.
If this is the case I would replace it.

Has it just started doing it?

if so have you changed/installed anything?

Check the actual card to make sure the fan is still spinning on it

other than that check the caps on the card make sure they are not blown...

Let me know...

hi my name is wesley. please run a virus scan because about two months ago i had the same problem with my games and it waz a virus that infects 1 specific file in all the games that you play so that the next time you play them they glitch an shut down in the first few minutes. after checking for virus re-install 1 of your games and try to see if it works but before you re-install move all your saved files to a different folder to keep until you have installed agen then you can put them back so you dont lose saved game data.

GeForce 6200 shuts down and PC reboots

First check that overheating is'nt the problem, you can remove the sides of the pc and allow hot air to escape easier, if this cures it you need more fans, while your'e in the pc check for dust blocking fans and vents. Also visit the game makers web site for bug fixes if there are any and also go to graphics card web site (www.nvidia.com)for possible known game issues that you are playing.
