Place a tray filled with white vinegar into the oven. Turn it on to a medium-high heat and let the vinegar "cook off" or reduce to 20% of its original volume.
Yes, you will smell the vinegar and the oven will smell like vinegar- but that's the best way to clean a smelly oven. I prefer the vinegar smell to that of curry, burned meat,etc.
DO NOT REMOVE THE HOT TRY- TURN THE OVEN OFF and wait for the oven to become cold, then remove the tray/pan and remaining vinegar - then clean the oven.
