I just installed a new Moen Model 82496 single handle shower faucet and it won't stop leaking. I adjusted the white gear every which way and nothing will keep it from leaking. It varies for different settings. It can leak a few drops every 20 seconds up to 2 minutes. What do you think is the problem?

When installing plumbing fixtures, you should always use either plumbers putty or Teflon tape around the threads where the two pieces come together. Without it, leaks are very possible. More often than not, you get leaks.

http://www.plumbingspecialties.com/downloads/PPfistertoSpeak.pdf......this website offers several blow up diagrams of the mixometer. More than likely it is the packing and all you have to do is tighten the packing nut. You can do this by removing the handle and tightening the nut below it. You may have to remove the escuteon to gain access but the blow up should help you. If you have any questions just ask.

SOURCE: Slow drip from Delta single lever shower faucet

Remove handle. Next take channel locks and unscrew counter clockwise the ring. Next look for plastic location tab at 3 or 9 o clock. Remember location. Next pull out rest of parts including ball. I would recomend replacement of ball with new seats and springs. Delta makes a kit with all the parts that you need. Hope this helps.

If this is a Moen posi temp valve you may need to adjust the temperature limit stop. It is located under the handle. Usualy a plastic peice with grooves in it so it fits in another peice in the valve. If I remember right you pull this peice out and turn it counter clockwise to get more hot water. Do this in small increments and reassemble and test. I hope this helps.

The moen began to leak over time now i cant turn the water for

Call moen and give them your model no. they will send you a new cartridge free of charge. if you can't wait local stores like lowes will have them. Turn off your main water shut off valve and take off handle, then with some pliers take off brass ring, the cartridge will pull out. First notice the notch it rests in and notice where the hot water adjustment disc is. Assemble the new one the same way, put some vasolene on orings and reassemble. hope this helps.
