Hello
According to you, your RCA TV has went off while watching it. As there is no sound or picture at all, and the power kicks, the fault must be to its horizontal out section. The horizontal output section have LOT [Line Output Transformer] and related parts in it. Your TV must be chcked well to detect the actua fault. Normally, the LOT said above can be faulty, otherwise, the horizontal output transistor, the device that drive the LOT may also damaged. If this transistor gets leaky, the secondary main power DC supply will get a direct short, and the set will come on protection mode as we switch it ON. Here, according to you, this is happening. Just replace the horizontal output transistor first and see the effect. It is a three terminal component, screwed on to a metal heatsink, and can be located very near to the above said LOT.
After replacing it, switch On your TV, for a while, say 5 seconds or so, and if a whisiling sound is heard, and the replaced transistor over heats, the LOT said above is faulty, and should be replaced with same type and number. OK.

Whichever may the TVis yours, the fault you indicates is this. This is a common fault for most of the TVs, and can be fixed. But to fix it by yoursef, you must have a sound knoledge in electronics, concept of soldering and testing equipments. Otherwise it is best to get it repaired by any experienced service technicialn. It will not cost a lot as you expects. Lot is one which cost more, the transistor I said above is a little bit cheap. OK.

    Sir
Just replace its horizontal output transistor first. It can be located very near to the LOT, screwed on to a metal heatsink. It it a three termimal component, black in colour. After replacing it, switch on your TV, for a short time, say 3 seconds or so, and feel the heat effect of that transistor, by hand, after unplug the set from AC mains wall socket. it can be warm, but not over heated. If LOT has shorted, this transistor will overheat in short time, and a whisiling sound or any unusual high frequency sound will be hear. If so, make sure that the LOT is faulty, and it also should be replaced with same type and number. OK.

The TV will bring to turn on but then it sounds like it loses power and makes a high pitch noise and powers off, no picture ever comes on the TV, the screen stays black the whole time. The TV is a RCA...

it could one of two things. The power supply is failing which is most common. Or the picture tube is gone. Both would most likely cost you more to fix than the TV is worth. Call around and get a few quotes. Good luck

RCA TruFlat 32" Blue light flickers, clicking noises, help!

OK for the start, try this unplugged your unit for about 60 sec. Then plugged it again and switch on. Does it help?

If not then dont connect your surge protector in line for the meantime. Power the unit. This is to isolate whether your surge protector is defective or not. Does it help?

If not, this could down to your high voltage section, if this is a crt tube tv. You might loose your flyback transformer, and or the horizontal output transistor. Checking its peripheral component is a must. That clicking noise is the relay, thus this have relay?

If your not into electronic, have it service.

You have a bad flyback transformer and shorted horizontal output transistor. Your set would have to be taken to a shop to have these parts replaced. Stargazer
