Question about Power Acoustik Gothic OV2-820 Car Audio Amplifier

Open Question

I have a Power Akoustic OV2-820 w Gothic Serious amp hooked up to two 12-inch Kicker Competition CRV subwoofers in my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. When I hooked my system up a few days ago, everything was working fine. The blue light on the top of my amp was on, and the green power light on the side of my amp was on. Sometime throughout the day, my system stopped working. I couldn't tell you when because my volume was down. Now, when I turn my car on the red protect light on the side of my amp will come on for 3 seconds and then turn off. The blue light is no longer on either. I haven't changed any wiring whatsoever. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

SOURCE: Protection Mode? amp wont start

With your multimeter set to DC volts and the black meter lead on the ground terminal of the amp, touch the red lead alternately to the B+ and remote terminals as the amp shuts down. If the voltage drops below ~11 volts, you need to check the wiring feeding whichever line is dropping too low.

If the voltage remains near or above 12v, disconnect all speaker wires and signal cables from the amp. If it powers up, the wiring needs to be checked. If it still shuts down, the amp likely has blown output transistors.

SOURCE: Amp Not working!

If the amp goes into protect mode, it's likely due to shorted output transistors. To eliminate other possible problems, read through the following page:

Amp in Protect Mode - Troubleshooting

If the problems are not with the wiring, follow the link at the bottom of the page to the Amplifier Repair Primer page.

My kicker 12 inch cvr's arent hitting as hard as they should

amps and wiring kits are very optimistic on the output. If you want proper wire, buy some welding cable "0" or "00" guage. That solves the power delivery. Put a 1 Farrad (or more) capacitor near the amp, that solves the surge power issue. Make sure the box is suitable for the subs. Lastly I'd say do some research and find the right amp that can deliver the clean, huge current required to move some serious air!

How do you install a 10 inch kicker with a built in amp

Rum a fused power line to the Battery, a fused remove on from the head unit or keyed fuse in the fuse box, ground it to the chassis, hook up the signal source using speaker wires or pre-amp cables. Bolt it down so it wont more while driving

Why does my amp turn off when i hook up my 12 inch kicker

Possibly due to a poor battery, you could try installing a power cap to prevent the amp shutting down/protect due to low voltage when the starter kicks in.

Will I able to run two or four kicker competition fifteen inch subs to this amp?

  • You could effectively hook up two 15" Kickers. Make sure they are power hungry because that amp has some weight behind it. I don't recommend 4 speakers though. Get a second amp if you want to run 4 15" speakers.

  • Thanks for using FixYa

You will have to pull out the head unit and see if there is a blue remote wire for am and rca audio output jacks that go to amp. I highly doubt it. Usually you have to get an aftermarket deck

Bridging to 12 inch kicker competition subs to my 1000 watt alpine 4 channel amp

I'm a bit confused. For Alpine amps, the "M" prefix is for monoblock (aka single channel) amps and the "F" prefix is for multichannel amps. The only M550 I find is an MRD-M550, which is a monoblock, not a 4 channel like you say.
Unfortunately, I can't give you accurate help until we know weather it's truly 1 channel or 4 channel. Then I'll be glad to help!
