Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I just had the belt replaced on my "Maytag" Gas Clothes Dryer Model #DG608. The repair man installed the new belt with the smooth side toward the drum as per one set of instructions derived from the internet. A different version of the instructions indicates that the new belt should be installed with the grooved side toward the drum. The original belt broke and came off the drum so we can't determine how it was installed. The dryer is now making noises that were not present before the belt broke, How can I determine which is the correct manner for the new belt to be installed? Thanks. Herman

Herman usualy the groove side goes toward the drum which means it rides on the pulley from the motor disconnect and lean backwards to get a visual

Maytag gas dryer broken tumber belt. how do i replace it myself? the tumbler doesn't turn, the belt thah goes around it is broken. i need to put a new belt on.

Each dryer is made differently on how to access the drum (tumbler) and belt replacement. If you can provide a model #, that would be very helpful. On most dryers the model# is located on the door frame usually to the left when you open the door. This will get you started in the right direction.

Yes it can be a gas dryer. If you have a electric dryer now though you can not convert to gas. If the dryer is set for propane the it can be converted to gas buy a licensed plumber or appliance repair man.

Good Luck

Maytag Performa PYE G2200 gas dryer, the dryer seems to turn on but the drum will not turn.

Based on the information provided, it sounds like a broken drum belt is at fault. Below is an illustration of the drum belt.

Here is a belt installation diagram:
Dryers have a drive belt that turns the clothes drum. If the belt breaks, the drum stops rotating. Then you need to replace the belt, and often the idler pulley, because the pulley tends to wear out at the same time.

GAS DRYER, JUST REPLACED BELT BUT DRUM WILL NOT TURN WITH CLOTHES IN IT.

My guess: bad motor bearings which let the rotor move off-center and bind.
Usually the motors are not repairable

Maytag dryer

Dear sloika,
I do not believe the problem lies within the dryer unit.
when the dryer unit fails to dry clothes in reasonable time 90% of the time it is the clogged air vent is the reason.
Dryer vent cleaning improves the safety and efficiency of your dryer installation. As dryer vents become filled with lint and other debris, drying time increases and can cause the dryer itself to overheat. This increases energy consumption since the dryer has to run longer to dry your clothes and can also cause fires in the dryer or the dryer duct. The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports dryer related home fires are on the increase.
  • First check your vent hose between the back of dryer and the air outlet on the wall. Vaccum clean the dirty hose and even into the dryer unit using flexable vaccum attachment. also try to vaccum clean airoutlet that goes into your wall as far reach into and much as possible. The dryer's lint filter and its path needs to be cleaned as well.
  • If all air flow path are cleaned it will improve 200% of your drying time.
There is also professional dryer vent cleaners in your area who can help solve the problem. just check your yellowpages..

Good luck!
