Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

Hi I am struggling to set my Denpa Vt50 up onto land line telephone voice recording. I have managed to get it to show the red light as if it is recording but when I go to play back, I cannot access the files. it shows that there is approx 4 hrs of recording there but cannot listen to it. I have set it to VOR and on telephone settings. All appears good, but cannot get into files. I have tryed to set record on REC" as well as MP3 - no difference. HELP!!!

Yep, thanks for that. It is connected up according to the diagram, I have tried several different configurations but obviously only one works. I think that my problem is in the file allocation or settings - Not too sure if it needs to be set in REC' mode or USB. Neither seem to make any difference. Also, I can see on my display (I think) that there is about 4 hrs or so of recording but cannot get into the file! have tried to connect it to the laptop and auto play but nothing seems to be working. I am sure that it is a setting issue.

Sorry - I meant to add that I am using the cables provided, one side goes into the splitter and the other end is pluged into the device

  • eric_castle_ Apr 05, 2011

Yep, it is a single line phone - well, a protable phone base that I have connected the VT50 (inline) onto. I have managed to playback once or twice when I first got the VT50 when I tested it (only had it a month) but realised that I had not set it to VOR etc so removed it from the power adapter and reset it. Memory is 1010M; Free space is 372M and Used is at 638M. As I mentioed, it did apper to be working because whenever a call came in or was made, I would check the device and I could see the red LED record light come on and then would seem to be voice activated because it would go off and on according to the coversation. I am stumped!

    Hi Mate

Sorry for the late reply - time differences and meetings.

Right. Yes, I can do a simple record if I use the built in mic and play it back from the device itself.

Yes, I do set the volume to 11 as recomended.

I feel the the main issue is me being able to get the recorded information out of the device. I am running Windows XP 2002 service pack 2. I can open and play .jpeg, .wam and mp3 on any other folder or attachment and I have looked on the web for upgrades or service packs for the VT50 but there does not seem to be much out there.

In my understanding, the issue is getting the used space freed up and onto my laptop so that I can listen to it or at lease getting the ability to find it on the device so that I can listen to it on the device.

    Sounds easy doesn't it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hey Mikeywaf
Sorry for the delays in getting back to you - it has been one of those weeks. I have tried several different combinations in setting the DVR up and seem to have managed to get it right. Regarding the lost or missing data, I realised that if you do not press stop when recording the land line on VOR, the data is not automatically saved! The data that I was trying to recover was wiped due to a power cut I had at the time and therefore as you mentioned, all that was there was silence.
Hopefully this is the last of it now, I am becoming more familiar with the device which is making things a hell of a lot easier.

Hi Eric - I'd like to ask you a couple of questions please.

Are you trying to record the telephone with the built in mic or with the cables provided?
And are they setup like this:
Hi I am struggling to - mikeywaf_19.gif

You should have the three devices connecting through the provided adapter, phone line, phone and recorder.

Let me know

Eric - this is a smaller issue but just to say - it's possible with the problems you've been having that you have 4 hrs of recorded silence.

Let' stick with getting it to record and deal with the 4hr file issue later ok

Let's go over settings - my take on the settings are:

    Main Menu

    Record Set -

Bit rate shouldn't matter though I would use 32/64K mono

    Mic Sense

Shouldn't matter here because we're using the cable and therefore the ext jack but I would set it to auto

    VOR -MUST- be on

Ext_input (using the cable) should be Telephone only

    Time Set/Language N/A

    File Memory N/A

    FM Radio N/A

MP3 operation only has to do with playback and not recording. The machine records by default to mp3 files.

Let' make sure you actually have space to record (the 4hrs of files) so let go and push the Menu key then Memory Size and Free Space to see if we have any room.

And to double check - we are talking about a single line phone and not a phone attached to a PBX system?

OK - then let's back up again to the real simple stuff.

If you set it up as a straight up voice recorder - using the built in mic, does it record audio and can you play it back from the device itself (no computers involved)

    Under Record Set

Bitrate - whatever but more than 8K

    VOR on

Ext_Input - This is confusing as we're going to use the internal mic so I guess this shouldn't matter.

Also - nowhere in your original problem description or in our discussion have you mentioned the volume settoing -- Do you have it on or near the recommended settting of 11?

Hi again - Switching modes to recovering and playing the data on the device.

When you plug the VT50 into the PC it should be recognized automatically (windows should tell you it's found a new device) and the recorder LCD should display some message/symbol about a USB connection. There is no upgrade/update for the device as no driver or software is needed.

If that happens can you go to My Computer -- Removable disc and then see the six folders? If so can you double click and open any and if yes can you see any files?

If yes, if you right click on one (any) of the files and click on properties and then detail, please tell me what it reads.

I understand that you may not get to the end this sequence.

Telephone recording

Yeah, um connect it to a phone in a room that is normally isolated from traffic. Not an ideal solution but as it is a machine and has only an external mic (it doesn't have an internal mic does it?) this is the only solution really, remove all noise except phone conversations.
