DDR2 will not fit into a DDR slot. When replacing memory you must use the correct frequency. The easiest way to find the right speed memory is to do a search using your computer make and model or visit the manufacturers site.

Hi i want to know if my laptop is with ddr 2or ddr 3,it is 1gb presaroi cq 60

The details about your laptop's ram,
Maximum = 4Gb
Technology= DDR2 SDRAM
Form Factor =SO DIMM 200-Pin

So, ram installed on your laptop is DDR2. If you need/want to upgrade, you have to look for and buy DDR2 type ram.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Compatiblity issue..

You may install up to 4GB of DDR RAM in this motherboard. It does not use DDR2.

This is from your manual:

Dual-channel DDR400 memory support
Employing the Double Data Rate (DDR) memory technology, the motherboard supports up to 4GB of system memory using DDR400/333/266 DIMMs.

Ram issue with compaq presario 5000 G1 Series

as you can see from the information below there are different requirements for RAM to work stable in your system . Most importand are the RAM VOLTAGE , SPEED , and Configuration of chips. you will need to consult the manual for qualified RAM requirements. Some RAM will work but not very stable. make sure the voltage supplied by your system is enough for the RAM. If you are running DDR RAM in dual channel mode, the ram needs to be the same size also. DIMM modules for the HP computer must meet the following requirements
  • The number of pins on the DIMM must match the socket type.
  • DDR memory requires a 184-pin slot and 1.8 operating voltage.
  • DDR2 memory is not compatible with DDR1 memory and requires a 240-pin slot and 2.5 operating voltage.
  • Synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM): Only use DDR type SDRAM memory if the computer came with DDR-SDRAM.
  • SO-DIMM modules for the HP computer must meet the following requirements
    • The number of pins on the DIMM must match the socket type.
    • SO-DIMM memory requires a 200-pin slot.
    • DDR2 SO-DIMMs are not compatible with DDR1 DIMM and DDR2 DIMM memory modules.
    • With a computer running at a system bus of 533 MHz or 667 MHz, use a PC2-4200 (DDR2 DIMM 533) type.
    • The following requirements must be met for the DDR memory to function in dual channel mode:
      • Same density (256MB, 512MB, etc.)
      • Same DRAM chip technology (x8 or x16)
      • All either single-sided or dual-sided
      • Matched in both Channel A and Channel B memory channels

Graphics card upgrade

Not compatable at all.
DDR SDRAM memory uses 184 Pin Dimms
Double-Data-Rate Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory, better known as DDR SDRAM or DDR RAM for short, is a type of very fast computer memory. DDR RAM is based on the same architecture as SDRAM, but utilizes the clock signal differently to transfer twice the data in the same amount of time.

DDR2 SDRAM uses 240 Pin Dimms.
DDR2 SDRAM improves on DDR SDRAM by using differential signaling and lower voltages to support significant performance advantages over DDR SDRAM.

If your question has to do with buying a video card that is going to use DDR2 ram, that would be a faster graphics card. You can also get video cards with DDR3 ram which again is even faster.
Oddly enough in respect to system memory DDR2 is supposed to be faster than DDR yet the DDR memory cost more than the DDR2. Go figure.

Which RAM supports

hi!good pm...hope this will help...

check your RAM,look for stickers that indicates your memory speed & capacity (e.g. 512MB PC400 DDR)...if there's no sticker description count the pin,a DDR has a 184-pin DIMM...

No you cannot use ddr2 with this motherboard, this motherboard only supports ddr. And also ddr2 is not backwards compatible with ddr dimms because the notch is in a different position and the pin density is slightly higher then ddr dimms. ddr2 is a 240 pin module, ddr is a 184-pin module.

No, DDR400 is just DDR RAM. DDR2 is newer RAM and is not compatable with older systems that take DDR RAM. Sorry.
