Question about Martin MANIA SCX500 EFFECTS LIGHT

Open Question

In all three scanners operate the fan motors and mirrors! In the control or the supply to the lamp, there is a problem (which I unfortunately do not), because all three scanners do not work the lights! An expert can solve this problem maybe!

Fan will only start when you blow into it, and when it does start, it's noisy. Where do I get a Marshall replacement fan off the newer Marshall amps? These fans are said to be better than the ones...

Bearings have gone in it... The fans are standard part. Take number off the label and search for the same unit. Note if it has two or three wires. If it has only two wires, replace with one of same voltage and current or wattage rating and of course that fits size-wise. Three wire ones have a sensor and you are best to replace with exact unit.

My power supply in my phonic helix mkII 24 board is blown, it was messed up in a power surge, I have tested the remaining connecting parts and everything else is fine. I contacted phonic and they dont...

Usually it's the electrolytic caps that go in those, they basically "cook" and dry out, a power spike just pushes them over the edge. I've also had this problem with mine & 2 12 volt switchers for my HD and for the satellite had the same fix. I added a fan which helps. Another solution is to go to a second hand store, find 3 power suplies (15v,15v, 5V) and put them in place of the existing one. I am considering that myself as the firewire packed it in again last month and I had to jump over to the other 5v regulator to get it going again, even tho it was only 0.2 v short! Cheers, Sandrine

How do I get access to remove & replace the fan in a pmp3000 it looks like the bottom can be removed to gain access. does it also involve removing side panels and handle or can the bottom panel be...

Nope! Leave side panels alone. There are three screws under the front lip (ones that hold the top) and several up the sides of the panel with the faders and the LOWER row of screws on the narrow piece that bends down from the panel with the sliders. Be careful as there are two cables between the top and the lower stuff. One goes to the power supply and the othe goes to a connector under the cover of the power amp module. If you don't have a way to support the top panel while working on the fan you will have to disconnect thosee connectors and they put goo on them which if not careful can break them.
Please be aware that the fan is this is throttled based on temperature sensors on heat sink. Also if the bearings are bad you best replace with exactly the sme model as it has to work with the temp sensors. They have strips that are threaded to act as nuts for the fan mounting. The fan almost doesn't run till you start pushing power... since there are electronics that control the fan, make sure the fan is the cause of inoperation. If the fan is seized up, then replace it.

My Eliminator E-144 runs but won't light up. I have replaced the bulbs, replaced the fuse, the fan runs, the sensitivity dial and mic work, it spins but the bulbs won't light up?

A very common problem with the small Halogen lamps at this power level is the socket contacts burn up and no longer contact the lamp pins. Check the resistance between teh slip rings (lift one brush as the motor will be in the circuit if you don't) and look for a real low resitance since you have 6000 watts of bulbs, they will draw 5 amps total when running so they are about 24 ohms hot and since incandescents are about 1/10 that when cold expect around 2.4 ohms or so. Make sure you do not handle the glass of the bulbs. I have found sockets if yours are bad at an online source as

http://www.divinelighting.com/round-multibase-socket-g4-g53-gy635-lamp-holder-p-263.html

Check which base your bulbs have though as I replace other lamps here and this may be different than yours.

Device powers on and goes through startup but no light. lamp is new. scanner moves but no light

Yep... I got one on the bench and also another I have just fixed. The one that is still sick has a lamp power supply that is inoperative. There are two supplies in this unit. One powers the electronics and the motors, the other the lamp. The lamp one is mounted bottom side under the lamp. I have partially traced out the circuit and I am trying to analyze it. It appears to have two transistors that drive the step down transformer that generates the 24 volts for the lamp. It appears they MAY use a Diac as a relaxation oscillator driving the bases of the large switching transistors. The circuit is fairly simple and has a small transformer for driving the bases as well as the larger output transformer. This supply operates directly off the line input so one needs to use an isolation transformer for personal safety when troubleshooting. I suspect the Diac might be gone in mine. The one I just fixed had been dropped and the plastic standoffs for BOTH power supplies were broken. The smaller supply on the one I repaired had the power transistors fracturing the circuit traces they were attached to so supply would not operate. Jumpering the breaks fixed the problem. Also on that one the audio sensitivity pot was smashed. Replaced that. I will be working on the one with the bad 24 volt lamp power supply again. In the meantime, see if on yours the ONLY problem MIGHT be the big power transistor leads have broken loose from the circuit board
The supply is mounted on three standoff plastic pins to the cover with the grill punching on the back side. Remove BOTH long side aluminum extrusions (8 screws +1 more) to free the long plate with the supply on it. Chauvet STUPIDLY have the heatsink aluminum dangling by the two power transistors so bumps flex the transistors... you will see it when you open it... You can contact me as fredy2 at the AOL.com.

I'm looking for the pig tail or the part where the wire hooks on to the lamp

I think you have to replace the whole lamp socket as the wires are permanently attached to it. I found the sockets online with Google searching for "Socket XX" where XX is the type of lamp specified on the units. They are not expensive BUT the vendors have a minimum so I had to order 6 of them and also some spare lamps to meet the minimum. The wires of the socket you get will have to be trimmed like the original ones for length. These sockets like to burn up. Getting the screws into the socket in the lamp holder I remember is a bit frustrating.

The cooling fan on the behringer 500 doesn't work. The fan is good, but the 24Vdc isn't there.

The fan in this is throttled depending on three temperature sensors on heat sinks in the unit... Until the temp is up the voltage will be far less than 24 volts. Two sensors are on the power amp heat sink and another on one of the heatsinks with the IGBT's in the power supply. The fan will run slow and very quiet until unit warms.

FAN DOESN'T COME ON. FAN IS OK.

The fan in this is throttled and runs quite slow and QUIET until it heats up when driving hard.

There are thermal sensors that command the fan speed... If it doesn't run at all, then take unit to have it serviced... The sensorsare on both the power amp heat sinks and the one sink for one of the IGBT main switchers in the power supply... The problem, if there is one is likely with the transistors that receive the sensor signals and control the fan.

Marshall MB4410 - Dies and comes back to life every few minutes..

Our bassplayer had the same problem with his mb4410. As it turned out, the fan was not working when the amp got hot. It did turn when cold - go figure! Swap the fan for a good quality (Pabst, Sunon) 80mm pc fan with 2-wire connection. Three or four wire fans will not work w/out modding. See your local pc guy and ask for an unregulated, silent 24/7 fans. He will know. Our bassplayer sold the P.O.S. while still in warranty. HTH.

MY Fender Passport P250 went into protect mode. I changed the FUSE at the power supply with a new fuse. Still it is in Protect mode. How to fix this

This needs to go to the repair shop. The protect mode is turned on when either the power supply has a problem or one or both power amplifiers have a problem. These are often blown components.

These units are HARD to work on. To open you have to first remove then front panel before you can remove the back panel that has the power supply and power amps/heat sinks.

Compare repairs of these units to working under an automobile dashboard!

Hint: On startup, use a series 150 wat lamp to limit current while repairing. SInce these use a switching supply operating off the input line, use an isolation transformer for personal safety.
