Question about Sewing Machines

1 Answer

I have a simplicity quilters classic SW240. It got jammed and now that I got that fixed the tension is off. The machine will sew about 8-10 good stitches and then skip a couple and then sew again. I can not figure this out.

Is the needle bent, burred or blunt, did it strike a pin or the sewing machine foot during the jam up?

Hand wind the machine through the stitch formation and listen for any squeaking or popping sound as the needle enters the fabric. Or just change the needle anyway and see if it helps. A needle is good for 4-6 hours of sewing only so they do need changing for each new project.

If the stitching is looking uneven and tension is bad check your thread path and make sure the top thread is between the tension discs correctly and under tension, the tension dial is set to the mid range 5 or so and that the bobbin thread is correctly held by the tension spring and is in the right way and rotating in the correct direction.

If looping on the underneath, then your top tension is off, and visa versa.

How can I fix my simplicity quilters classic sewing machine that the to thread seems to get hung up in the bobbin case and the machine freezes up and will not sew?

Is it really threaded correctly? Is the needle, old, blunt,or slightly bent? Are the thread and needle compatible with the material? :)

Use 1 step automatic buttonhole on simplicity quilters choice

if your sewing machine has a button hole lever, then the button hole
function will not work until the lever is pulled down.
it to the right of needle

My bottom thread is making large loops, is the tension to tight or slack

it's to slack, try a 3 or 4 setting on the tension
& if you use your machine alot,, clean under the needle plate & bobbin area for loose threads & lint
using a can of air is helpful
