Question about Craftsman Garden

1 Answer

I took apart the carborator on my lawn mower and cleaned it. How do I hook the linkage back together? Its a Craftsman model 917 373680 and the engine is a 143 434332. I know that the wire linkage goes to the Governor Control Arm and then to the flat plate throttle Control Valve but I don't know which way to orient it and which hole it goes in. The other linkage with the spring on it goes to the Governor arm and then to the throttle lever? Spring goes on the Governor side? I have pictures but I don't see how to attach them.

    Hi Kelly,

The link you gave is a 404. However, identifing the engine as a Tecumseh TVS120 led to this site after I googled it. http://www.angelfire.com/mb2/visitme/mow...
    Thanks for your help!

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.

Download this manual first:
http://www.cpdonline.com/692509.pdf

See 37 for the governor spring and linkages.

This should be what you need. If not the answers are in that manual.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Hello Chris,
On the very front of engine cover should be a model, code, and serial number stamped into cover. If you can find this info I should be able to post diagram for you.

Gear shift lever is loose and mower will not move. this is on a craftsman lt1000.

Trace back the linkage from the shift lever to the transaxle to see if the linkage has come apart. If it is a manual, then I know the linkage connects to the transaxle on the top, forward, left of center. There is a retaining bolt (i think bolt, been a long time) that attaches the linkage to the transaxle. If this has backed out very much the linkage is not going to shift gears on the transaxle.

I hope this helps.

Need pamphlet for Briggs,Stratton Eastern Lawnmower 2007 Took lawnmower apart, cannot find book on how to put it back together.

You must have model numbers to get any real help. If you mean you took the motor apart, you could go to www.briggsandstratton.com/ and download a manual.

Find your model number on your motor and enter on web site.

go to sears.com and look up the actual engine number. they have a section for lawn and garden and in there there is a link to their parts lookup and they are very detailed. but you will need a pulse tach to set the govenor back to where it was and if it spun the govenor open too far due to the govenor not being hooked up, it could have came apart inside the motor and you will need to take it to a shop. as far as setting the govenor once you get it all back together, you need to push the throtle wide open and turn the govenor shaft in the same direction then tighten it down. yeah its not hard if you have done it before but if you havent and cant understand what i just said, save your time, and engine and have a shop fix it. and i havent seen a motor in my 9+ years that you had to remove all of that to fix a recoil rope.

Craftsman is a sears model. Sears may be able to help you there by providing a complete schematic of the units motor.
