Hi, thank-you for you e-mail. I cannot find a model number for my T.V. but it is a NEC and it quite old. I bought the vhs/dvd combo in 2007. I checked the cable and it is yellow and white coloured, pulled them out and reconnected them, still same problem. It only started to play up about 4 months ago. I only have the problem when I want to prerecord a programme and hit the functions button and try to work out all the functions because it is jumping up and down. I can record a programme from the T.V. or watch a video or dvd,no problem, it stops jumping. Hope to hear from you soon Joy B.

Thank-you for getting back to me but I think it is getting too hard to explain what is wrong with it. The T.V. does not have a model No: on the back, it has come off, but it must be atleast18 years old.It jumps when I press the TV / AV button,on the TV or remote then the functions button on the remote, to record a programme or to do anything. If I play a DVD or Video it doesn't jump, The aerial is connected to the TV. Joy B.

Hello Lassie,

The picture jumping up and down suggests to me that there is a problem with the cable/s between the DVD player and the TV. Make sure they are all fully inserted and, if necessary, remove each connection one at a time and then re-connect it. There are other possible causes. Progressive scan may be switched on (and your TV or connection does not support this mode) or the output resolution of the player may be incorrect for your TV.

I don't want to tell you to change any settings without knowing a bit more about your equipment. Please can you answer the following quick questions to assist me in solving your problem:

1. Brand and model number of the TV?
2. How is the DVD player connected to the TV? (Type of cable)
3. Has this fault suddenly occurred? - Was it working before or have you just connected it?

If you don't know the model number of the TV, it will be on label on the back of the TV. If you don't know the type of cable you are using, please describe it as best you can, i.e. how many plug/jacks are on each end of the cable and are they color coded.

Please reply to me with these details by clicking on "Add a Comment" below your question.

    Hi Joy,

Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry for the delay in replying to you but I wrote the message above shortly before going to bed.

I'm slightly confused at the moment as you originally said the problem was when you wanted to record off TV but in your last reply you said it was when you wanted to "prerecord". Does "prerecord" mean use the timer?

Also, you should have 3 cables from the DVD to the TV - yellow white and red. I think we should start at the beginning with this. At the moment, I still need a little more information from you.

    1. Is the DVD/VCR connected to the aerial for recording TV programmes?

    2. Is there a coaxial cable (aerial cable) from the DVD/VCR to the TV?

Finally, the model number of the TV should be on a label on the back of the TV. Please could you check for this.

Thanks Joy. No need to explain any further - hopefully I can figure it out from the information you've provided. You'll have to give me an hour or two to think about it though. I hope this doesn't inconvenience you at all.

Panasonic DMR-EZ47V DVD Recorder / VCR Combo RC1 errior message how do I fix this problem
To get into Service Mode, first put the machine in STANDBY mode, then press the buttons ChUp OPEN/CLOSE and REC all at the same time on the front panel (Ch Up is hidden inside the AV3 input flap). Eventually the front panel display will show "SERV" (after its "HELLO" messages). Anyway, pressing [6] then [5] on the Remote Control tells me that I have an Error Code of "04" which is a Digital PCB or Communication Error (whereas an Error code of "02" means a "Defect of RAM drive"). (To exit from Service Mode, press [0] then [0] which should get you back to "SERV" and then POWER-OFF the machine).

Hopefully, your manual will display your error codes.

Perhaps the remote control is not set to the same control code as your DMR-ES40V. Codes may be set to 1, 2, or 3 on the remote by holding down the enter button and one of those number buttons for several seconds at the same time. The factory default is code 1. Try 1 first. If that doesn't work try 2. If that doesn't work try 3. If one of those codes doesn't work you may have a bad remote or a bad sensor on your machine. On DMR-ES35V models the sensor is located just to the right of center behind the black window

Is the Remote Control sensor in direct fluorescent lamp light or other strong
sources of light?
Press unit POWER button down over 7 seconds. The POWER indicator goes
out. If the Power was On, the screen will also disappear. After 5 seconds, turn
Power On and operate unit normally. If the steps above do not restore normal
operation, disconnect then reconnect the AC plug and turn the power On.

If that does not work, Panasonic offers free tech support 6 days a week 1-800-211-7262 (pana).
