What type of computer are you using? If it is a laptop, try disconnecting all of the peripherals and the charger. Then remove the battery. Press and hold the power button for 15-30 seconds. Reconnect things and try to see if the computer boots up and then recognizes the devices. Try a minimal number of peripherals to start. For a desktop, you can try something similar (disconnect your power cord from both the computer and the outlet) or access the motherboard and remove the CMOS battery (or use the clear CMOS jumper).

For Windows on a laptop, use the unit's laptop and touchpad to enter the Device Manager. Uninstall the USB drivers (Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device Manager in Windows 7). Then restart the computer. If you have a desktop with a PS2 keyboard, you can do the same thing by using the keyboard. (Windows Key > Control Panel and use the arrow keys).

Try accessing the keyboard when you turn on the computer. For this you need to press and release the key every second from the time you press the power button. Try F8 to boot into safe mode (then delete drivers) or return to a known good version of Windows. Try entering the BIOS (F1, F2 or F10 depending on the brand of computer). If you have a recovery CD (install or upgrade disc), try booting to the CD and repairing Windows to a known good state. If your computer has a recovery partition, you can try rolling back the system by pressing F11.

I hope this helps.

(I've had this happen on a laptop and the reset via the power button worked when the battery was removed. On a desktop, it went back to HP under warranty since I couldn't get any keyboard to respond.)

After reading the description, I think you need to try updating BIOS and latest device drivers for USB. Because USB are getting power on that means there would not be any fault to from the motherboard.

So please try updating latest BIOS for your notebook.
If you can provide me the product no for your notebook and the operating system which you are using currently then I can find the one for you.

Otherwise you can also do the same.

Type in the product no. on www.hp.com. Then go to software and driver download page, select the proper OS and search in BIOS ROM pack available for your notebook.

I hope this will help.

I called Dynex customer support and they walked me through the troubleshooting process. It turns out there was a problem or conflict with one of my usb ports. The port recognizes my flash drive and other usb devices but not the mouse. I tried using the other two remaining ports and the mouse was recognized and works just fine.

Try the USB memory-stick in another computer.
If it does not work, then the memory-stick is broken.
If it does work, then the memory-stick is OK.

Try a USB mouse or USB keyboard in another computer, to prove that the device works in that computer.
Try the same USB mouse or USB keyboard in a USB port in your computer. Try each USB port.
If the mouse/keyboard does not work, then there's something wrong with the USB ports on your computer, either "hardware" or "software".

Open "Device Manager" in Windows, and check that the software device-drivers for the USB hardware are correctly installed.
Try "reinstall device driver" to see if Windows can repair itself.

First thing you need to do is to know that the USB ports of your laptop is really working. Insert another usb devices or storage such a flash disk. If the flash disk being inserted is not recognized by the system then the usb port you had inserted is malfunctioning or it is defective. But if the other usb devices like the flash disk is working then your new bought mouse is defective. Try to plug the usb mouse to the other ports available in your laptop.

Micro sd 2gb card, not read.

Sometimes when a flash memory stick fails because it was not removed from the USB port properly. If the device is removed by just pulling it out of the USB port, it can cause the flash device to fail, you must click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Task Bar and select the device you wish to remove and only do so when instructed to do so.

When the flash memory device appears to malfunction it maybe possible to restore it by reformatting it. Insert the flash drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Healthy.

You need to format the external drive. Format the drive as primary drive and in FAT32. (FAT32 will allow data to be exchanged between MACs and PCs).
Insert the external hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that it is Health.

Computer will not find flash drive

Does the flash-drive work on *ANY* computer?
If not, the problem is the flash-drive.

Does your computer have more than one USB port?
Does it work in *ANY* port?

Does a *DIFFERENT* USB-device (mouse, keyboard, printer) work in the USB-port that you are trying to use? If not, the USB port has a problem (either software or hardware).
