This is the troubleshooting recommendation from the Canon support center about this error message:
"If the print head is already installed, remove the print head and reinstall it.
If this error still remains, print head replacement or machine repair may be needed".
I would think the problem is the print head is defective, and this is the usual cause of the message, when it fails the print head is sensed as being incorrect rather than just defective. You can try one thing before you replace the print head, clean it throughly, accumulated ink may be causing a poor electrical circuit and triggering the message.
