Question about JVC HD-52FA97 HDTV

1 Answer

I have a JVC HD-52FA97 projection TV. After about 10 seconds after turning the TV on the red lamp light and blue power light start flashing together rapidly. The TV sounds like it is turning on, but there is never a picture or sound. Any idea what is wrong and if this is something I can fix? I would hate to buy a new bulb and have that not be the problem.

The bulb does not appear to be damaged at all. I cleaned the fan and made sure it is running properly. The TV had been powered off for the past 3-4 hours without trying to start it up so I would be surprised if it was something that is over heating.

Nothing I was trying for what you said for the blue light is working. When I hit power, it starts trying to turn on, and about 10-15 seconds later powers back down and the blue and red flash rapidly at the same time. Yesterday, this happened for the first time, and after one additional try power up the TV turned on.

    Any other suggestions?

There does not appear to be any damage, however I can not get to all of the components without taking to much of the tv apart. However, one thing that I did notice is that the lamp does light up, flicker in about a 3 second burst 3 times before the TV turns off. I could not tell this without the back cover off.

Does that point to anything in particular that could be wrong?

Is there a way to check these better without taking the whole thing apart? I know a bit about the circuitry but not enough to trust myself taking it apart much more than I already have. I checked it with another outlet and still no luck, do you think at this point this will be something I will be able to fix, or is this something that I will need to take it somewhere to be fixed?

The lights may be related to each other or their problem might be isolated.

For the red lamp light, it is not necessarily a faulty bulb but an error which may affect the bulb. It could be because an error detected. The fan's temperature may be increasing due to a faulty fan. Try cleaning the fan located in the lamp assembly. The fan may also need replacing. Another cause could be the power supply sending high voltages which may damage the bulb. At this instance it is possible that the lamp may be damaged by the heat or the increase voltage.

For the blue light, press the following on the TV itself;

hod 'menu' + 'vol (-)'
power then release
after 5 sec release 'menu' + 'vol (-)'

The TV will turn on otherwise unplug TV and press 'power'. Repeat if this does not work.

If the fan is running as it was when you got it then it may be on the delivery of the voltage which causes the system to shut down. It may be on the power inverter unit or the power supply unit. Inspect the boards for leaking or bulging capacitors or burnt parts or the entire circuit for those units may be bad.

it may still be the mentioned power sent to the lamp it could be too low or to high that the system shuts it down. This can still be traced to the power inverter or the power supply circuit. I do recall however someone with a similar incident although the lamp stayed longer, he changed power outlets. He used an out let far from the original outlet. It turned out the power outlet has gone bad through the years and voltage was not delivered consistently to the devices.

If you have a multi tester you can check the voltages and the continuity of the circuits, this was there is still a possibility of pinpointing the issue. Other than this substituting parts with know working pieces to identify the problem may be the next solution which can only be possible on a shop.

Our jvc tv made a popping sound and now has no picture. It also buzzes 3 times and the red and blue lights flash fast on front.

Something went bye bye. Check out your power supply for bad, burned components and/or blown caps - the latter often explode in their death throes.

No sound or picture on jvc 52fa97

If lamp is bad set will detect that (or other issues) and kill all functions=not unusual to have no sound if lamp is bad.

Please help!!! Problem with JVC DLP TV

You need to replace the power supply board. The new ones have a bigger heat sink - obviously JVC knows about the problem because they made the new ones bigger. It cost $250 from JVC and I installed it myself - took about 3 hours to do. If you are not tech savvy call a repairman. Hope this helps.

NO PICTURE OR SOUND

Hi
Usually, if the red light is flashing and you get no picture, that means that the lamp life cycle is finished and you'll have to get a replacment lamp. the lamp has about 3000 hours of life (2 to 3 years under nomal use).

You can buy a replacment lamp from here

Hope this helps
