My set is plugged into a cable box. the tv will not turn on either manually or with the remote.

Plug the power cord directly into a wall power outlet, and make sure that the standby light is lit (turn it on/off manually to see if anything changes). If there isn't any light, then it's most likely broken.
If the TV works again, being plugged into the power outlet in the wall, then the problem is with the cable box (i bet you figured that out too).

I have a Flat screen Akai TV and it will not turn on anymore. Before It would shut off and I would unplug it from the wall wait a few seconds and plug it back in It will turn on. But Last night I kept...

Seems like the power source was dying, and by unplugging and plugging back in you temporarily fixed it. But it sounds as if it's completely gone. You might need a new TV, but it sounds as if the power source went bad.

RCA 46'' rear projection TV, dated 1998 won't turn on

Probably a new problem given the age of the TV. If you already haven't done so, try unplugging the power for about 10 minutes, plug back in and try again.

disconnecting the tv from the audio connections on your amp may have created a powersurge in the audio input selector IC. Try powering down the amp at the wall completely for 5 mins and turn it on again. Check to see if operation has returned. If not then it may need an audio selector chip replaced.

This problem can be caused when connecting or disconnecting rca connectors from non earthed equipment like TV and VCRs, By the nature of this type of connector, it will spike the input line by connecting with voltages floating often over 100volts.

to avert this problem occurring, wire all the equipment up and with aerial disconnected and tv / vcr turned off at the wall socket. Turn the equipment power on at the wall last thing.
