Check the start relay located on the compressor when this gets fur in it it tends to burn out much quicker then without pets. This is the plastic piece located on the compressor that turns the compressor on you would also need to pull the unit out and take off the back panel and clean around the compressor and start relay area this way as well if you have never done this there would be alot of build up if you have any further questions message me back and please remember to rank how this opinion has helepd it allows me to help others in similar situations p.s remove the start relay and shake it in your hand if you are hearing something jingling on the inside of the relay replace the relay Thanks Rick

its the piece that comes off the side of the compressor that the wires plug into to give the compressor power if you folow the wires to the compressor you will see them go into a plasitc piece sometimes there are as two seperate pieces where as one is the start relay and the other is the overload send me your model number and i can send you pictures and schematics of your unit Thanks Rick

When I got into the ACME site, it directed me elsewhere and they do not have our model number, but there was a picture showing a start relay, although it was a much older refrigerator than ours. The daverepair site does not exist. With your description and the pictures we were able to find, my husband will try and see if he can get to the start relay and check it out as you suggested. He probably won't be able to get to it until Sunday, but will let you know the outcome. If you can find anything else to help us out that would be great. But we really appreciate what you have done for us so far.

the acme site is a much older machine but it is the same test as to the letters that you would be testing when i brought up the daves site while it was trying to load and taking forever i hit the refresh and was able to get it the daves site is very informative on how to test your compressor area for any problems also you said the unit was still working i take this as both sides are getting cold but they are shutting off after so long make sure you also clean the condensor from around the rear of the machine this would be the main place the pet hair would also cling right too as well he will have to remove the rear panel of the machine in order to get to this area which is also where the start relay is located Thanks Rick

Frig will cool but not stay cold

Check the condensing coil under the back side of the refrigerator. If the condensing coil gets dirty, the refrigerant does not condense at the proper temperature and carries unshed heat with it back to the evaporator. This excess heat reduces the ability of the refrigerant to cool because it did not lose the correct amount in the condenser. The condensing coil and it associated fan is located behind the cardboard cover on back side of the refrigerator.
The condensing coil should be cleaned at least yearly. People with pets such as shedding cats and dogs may have to clean it more often.
On your temperature control, a setting of 5 for both freezer and fresh foods section is the normal value.
Another thing to check is the air flow blockage in the freezer for the evaporator and product stored there. If the fan inside of the evaporator can not circulate air then improper cooling will occur. Make sure there is space between shelves and between product so air can circulate.

Hope this helps

Door hot

Totally normal. The condenser sends hot gas through the frame to stop the freezer door freezing to the frame. Check to see if you have a fan behind the condenser grill and make sure its running and clean

The freezer section of our Danby DFF8200W freezes well. However, periodically the refrigerator section freezes everything in it with the temp control turned as low as it will turn for me. The dial does not...

Make sure you clean the backside of refrigerator at bottom from dust. Make sure you have the recommended clearance from wall. Also make sure the food in freezer and frige have clearance to allow air to circulate around food. Keep playing with your controlls...The dails might be on wrong

Refrigerator compartments are too warm

Several reasons this can happen. Major problems could be related to compressor , the thermostat , wiring ,seals around door and other components.A common easy to fix reason for this problem is dirt and dust or dog and cat fur etc. that arecoating the fridges coils. The coils located commonly behind or underneath fridge loog like grating colored black and easy to recognize. Just take a brush or rag and clean off all debris coating the grill(coils) and this will increse your tempurature of the appliance to what it should be. Hope this cheap fix works for ya,

I noticed the ice wasn't freezing, then it quit cooling altogether. I unplugged it and cleaned out all the dog hair out from underneath it and it worked briefly. It occaisioally makes a loud humming...

Sorry to read about your problem.
If the unit is ok now, dirty coils was the issue if not you can have many different problems.
1. Bad temp control
2. Failing compressor
3. Defective start cap
4. Defective overload protector
5. Defective control board

I suggest you call a service company.

I have tried to help you. Please help me, by Vote/Rate my response. Thanks.

It is slowly warming up.

Pull the refrigerator away from the wall, and remove the 'cardboard' cover from the back. Make sure the condenser fan is working. If not, replace it! Also check that the area around the compressor is not blocked.

Whirlpool Gold 25.4 cu ft side by side

After cleaning the lint you need to give the unit at least 24 hours to recuperate. If you try letting it run for 24 hours and it still doesn't work let me know if the compressor (the main motor) and the fan underneath is working and the fan in the freezer is working.
