Red Picture on My Rear Projection TV Phillips

We recently moved and when we hooked our Philips Rear Projection television, we cant get the picture to come out right. It is all red. Even when we do the converge thing, it just looks really red with a bright white in the center. What to do?

Hello traci061882,

This might be an indication of defective CRTs (Cathode Ray Tubes). I would first check to see if the Green and Blue CRTs were functioning or have other issues such as coolant leakage (do visual inspection). Anything other then this will require you to contact a qualified TV repair Technician to troubleshoot the problem. I would suggest for starters that the technician perform a test on the CRTs with a CRT tester, This is the best way to do this it will cut to the possible cause right away, if the CRTs can be rejuvenated, at least you will have about two to three more years of use out of the TV before the CRTs are completely gone. However if the tubes are not the problem then the technician will have to troubleshoot the circuitry the connects to the CRTs.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Shuttle83

sounds like you may have a bulb out, you can pull the screen off to access it but you have to very careful with the screens or you will damage them, only clean with isopropyl alcohol and of good quality, there will be three bulbs in there, red blue green, their location and direction is very important, so dont move them, if they all work clean then put the screens back on, and see if you can adjust the direction from the menu

Cant get icns lined up can adjust side to side but

if this is a rear projection crt type set go into the customer menu and select CONVERGENCE--if either blue or red will not move up and down--you have a bad convergence IC---most sets use two of them.

The colors on my tv have separated, red, blue and green.

This a convergence problem. You maybe able to correct "electronically" by using the remote control and menu setup options. If you cant get where you need to go via remote control. A profession tweak may be needed inside the tv to phyiscally align the colors. good luck
