You can download and run this:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Download the free version and when it is finished it might run a quick scan right away. If so let it scan then, click on fix or repair. If it doesn't run scan right away, restart your system, click on "start" , click on "all programs" find Malwarebytes and click on to open. Run the quick scan for now and click repair. If you have antivirus protection you like, run a full scan now. If you don't have antivirus protection, you van get free protection here:
http://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antivirus
Downlaod this and, again it may run a scan right away. If it doesn't, run the full scan. This may take a couple of hours. When finished, let it make necessary repairs. Restart system. Go back to Malwarebytes and run a full scan. This will also take a while. When finished let it make necessary repairs.

Here are a few links to help you through the process.

Youtube link on how to remove it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ah3efRdWes&feature=related

Second and Third link is how where to get the software for it to remove them step-by-step. Depending what type of Virus you have.

http://remove-malware.com/how-to/how-to-remove-rogue-antimalware/

http://remove-malware.com/how-to/how-to-remove-malware-for-free/

Now keep in mind if when installing the software in normal windows mode it doesn't let you then you have to install it in Safe Mode. By pressing F8 on boot up. Make sure you select the one with Safe Mode with Networking. Also use another computer if need be to download the software. Transfer them with a USB.

Hope this helps! =)

Seems more likely that there was a virus threat and attack that had caused the firefox browser to hang up. You can shut down and restart, try and use a good active antivirus to scan, check and repair if there was any damage on the OS .If not you can uninstall the forefox and reinstall.
