Question about Dyson DC21 All Floors Stowaway HEPA Bagless Canister Vacuum - Iron/Titanium/Yellow

Open Question

I have a dyson dc21. All the sudden the hose is hardly suctioning up anything. If I take the canaster off, the top air hole suctions extrememly well, but when I place that canister back on, the suction is not going thru the hose and picking anything up. I have squeezed the hose, I feel no air leaking and do not feel any blockages...what could be wrong. It worked fine the other day and today, it won't pick up a piece of lint!

SOURCE: No suction

so the red hose isn't connected to a part on the vaccum so like it is connected to the connester but not to an opening just above the beater bar, this is the only idea i can supply you with. good luck, maybe i got lucky and helped you out.

SOURCE: Poor Suction

I recently bought a second hand Dyson DC07. Its suction was poor. I removed all the un-clipable pipe bits and to remove any blockage but it all looked clear. The Final Sponge and hepper filter did have a lot of dust in it and the rotating brush was full of hair but nothing bad.

I eventual gave in to curiosity and removed the three screws in the top or the yellow removable dust collection tube and cyclone bit to see what was in there. The mechanism to release the flap at the bottom of the collection tube does not allow you to remove the lid completely but it does open far enough to get inside. I found the whole top section of the yellow plastic bit blocked by a big plug of compacted dust and a champagne cork. If you are willing to take the risk and have a torx 15 screwdriver handy it that part may be blocked. It did get a bit messy.

If I was going to attempt the same procedure I'd remove the dust collection unit from the vacuum cleaner as I did before, but leave the clear tube attached and the emptying flap firmly closed to reduce the mess from the dust falling out the bottom while cleaning the top part.

SOURCE: no suction from the bottom

Check for a clogged airway between the bottom shoe and the hose inlet. The shoe is the area around the brush when looking at the bottom of the floor unit.

Dyson DC14 hose won't extend and floor unit lost suction

Sounds like the exhaust side is clogged. Remember a vacuum pulls air into the cavity, but for it to work properly it also has to be able to exhaust the same amount of air it takes in. If the exhaust is blocked it will continue to suck air inside and collapse on itself, which is why your hoses are getting shorter and harder to move. Check the exhaust system for any blockages, perhaps the hole you taped was the exhaust.

Not much suction

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your DC21 Motorhead doesn't seem to be picking up as well as it should be, you may need to wash the lifetime pre-filter. In normal use this should be washed at least once every 3-6 months using cold water without detergent. Allow at least 12 hours for both parts of the filter to dry completely before replacing them in your machine.

You may also want to follow the steps shown in our online Support guide to make sure the Motorhead floor tool, wand and hose are free of any obstructions: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc21/dc21-motorhead/my-machine-is-not-working/does-the-brushbar-turn-with-the-power-on-dc20

Hi there,

The warm air coming from beneath the clear bin is the motor exhaust, where filtered air is expelled back into the room. It's a feature of the cleaner's design, and nothing to be concerned about.

You may find that the new cleaner's hose is rather stiff to use at first due to the powerful suction. However, you should find that it will loosen up with use. You can expedite the process by stretching the hose out to its full length whilst someone else holds the cleaner in place.

If you have any further questions about using or maintaining your DC27, please get in touch with us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US), so one of our experts can provide further assistance.

Kind regards,

try completely cleaning it out and clean the filter or get a new one. sometimes when my vaccuum has low suction theres dirt clogged in the hose or the vaccuum itself. try cleaning it out and if that doesnt work try and see if the settings are messed with (if there are different settings of course)

If you suspect the hose is blocked, I would push stiff wire through it (gently) you dont want to puncture the hose.I have had so many blocked hoses in v/cleaners ( I service them) . try blowing through it. Sound silly but why not. I have had hair grips, paper, pencils, sweets, coins etc stuck in the bend of v/cleaner pipes.

A Dyson dc 17 Animal and the wand/hose has lost suction

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

From your description of the problem, it sounds as though the wand/hose is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose assembly from the machine, switch it on and test the suction from the top of the wand with your hand. If the suction is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction from the top of the hose. If its good here, then you know that the wand handle is blocked.

I just bought a used Dyson DC07. Works good but

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

From your description of the problem, it sounds as though the wand/hose is blocked. To test this, please remove the wand from the machine and switch on, testing the suction from the top of the wand handle. If the suction is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction from the top of the hose. If its strong from the hose itself, the wand is blocked and you will need to clear this.

If there is poor suction from the hose, you can remove this by unclipping it from the base of the machine and can then remove any blockages. It is also worth checking the hose for any splits or holes.

If you need any further help or advice, please visit our website at www.dyson.com and check out our support section.

No suction on wand of Dyson DC14 Animal

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though the wand handle is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose from the machine as if you were going to use it to vacuum the stairs. Switch the machine on and test the suction at the top of the wand handle with your hand. If the suction from the wand is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction again from the top of the hose. If the suction here is good, then you know the wand handle is blocked. If the suction is poor at the hose, you can remove the hose from the machine and clear any blockages here.

For the full blockage procedure please visit the support section on our website at www.dyson.com.
