Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

I had the same issue as Brian, the Niles ZR8630 stays in initializing mode. At first, the unit would not turn on, so opened it and replaced the fuse, power was restored. But now the unit continually stays in INIT mode.
any body has an answer/solution?

My SI-1230 was not working on channels 5-6 and 11-12. I opened the amp and replaced the fuses on those channels. Now the fuses blow immediately on channels 5-6 and the red protection light is on...

Chances are the main transistors or whatever powers channel 5 and 6 have shorted out. Fuses blow like this when there is an overload and these power types do that a lot. If it uses transistors, then a ohm meter will show them up quick. Because it will be just like you have touched the test probes together when you put them on the terminals, with the meter on the 1K setting. For the reason these parts are just acting like pieces of wire instead of doing their job.

Fusses on channel five and six blown can't read the rating any ides????

If the fuses on the other channels are good, try replacing the bad ones with that type and rating (assuming there are fuses on the other channels). My experiance suggest they should all be the same, as they are dealing with the same power levels roughly.

I have 6 speakers connect to my Niles 1230. The 2

First, change them to a different set of channels to rule out any problem with the amp. Next, pull the speakers, depending on the manufacturer, if their older than 1 year they may be blown. If you can pull the grill off the speaker, do so and examine the surround. If it's rubber or plastic, it should be ok. If it's foam or paper, chances are it's bad. If you still have a problem, post a comment and I will help you troubleshoot some more.
