a POTs (plain old telephone) line should never be connected to a router. that adsl filter does not make a phone line share a data line.
ADSL is a type of internet service supplied over a phone line. think of it as raw (unusable) when its on the phone line. then you use your dsl filter/splitter to feed the raw internet into a special dsl modem and the other port can be used by a standard phone.

you will know a dsl modem when you see it because its uplink or internet port will only be big enough to fit a phone cord into, not an internet cord. these dsl modems then feed usable internet to your routers and all devices on your network. but, like i said before, at this point it is too late for your phone and internet to share the same wire.

OK, thats not entirely true

1,2,3+6 are used in a typical network

if your network is typical you can "get fancy" and use 4,5,7+8 for telephone or even put 2 data lines on the same wire (not recommended for long distances). however, this may involve cutting some wires and splicing them together or something.

Connecting internet to wireless router

If you are trying to connect your wireless router to your ADSL modem then ( ADSL Modem -->Wireless Router-->Your Computer) dont enter any values in the ISP, DNS and MAC address fields. Let them be on default as :
Domain Name Server (DNS) Address Get Automatically From ISP

Router MAC Address Use Default Address This would then automatically pick up the settings from your modem.

You should remember to ad a WEP key to secure your wireless.

I have dial up internet. I know that it is slow

the server has timeout short is 1min to 5min, if you take longer than this you receive this error. so maybe change for ADSL Internet. Is less expensive than Dial up (30days use and 1 to 3h/day), and more bandwith (start on 4Mb Band, instead of 128K on Dial up ) than low level Internet Priority.

If the Internet light is off then there is a problem with the phone line to the ADSL modem or the modem is faulty or there is a problem at the telephome exchange.
Disconnect the phone cable at the ADSL modem and connect a phone handset to this cable - check for a dial tone and that you can dial out.
If you don't get a dial tone, use a different or new phone cable.
If the phone line is OK then : -
Ring your ISP to get them to test your connection to your ADSL
modem.

Mms settings and internet settings

I found these on a forum a short while back, hope they help

These settings should tide you over...

VPI: 8
VCI: 35
encapsulation: pppoe LLC (also called rfc 2516)
username format : username@dodo.com.auexteml.gif

incoming mail server : pop.dodo.com.au
outgoing mail server : smtp.dodo.com.au

Your user name for backup dial up is xxxxx@broadband.dodo.com.auexteml.gif (where xxx is your ADSL user name). Then for the password, it is your ADSL password.

The number to connect is 0198333516. You can confirm this by visiting Dodo website and go to their dial up number site.

* I have found this on a DODO forum site. They did mention it worked fine.

Cheers!
