Question about Televison & Video

Fan that sits above the lamp is whining and needs replaced. Was trying to research it but cannot find the procedure to replace. Is it as simple as sliding out the lamp unit to access?

Are you sure this is the model number? I can't find the manual anywhere. I have a manual for a KDS50A2000. I will email you the picture and see if that is the correct chassis for your tv

We will presume the lamp is good and not the problem---let me know when last replaced and if a generic or OEM lamp.

This leaves a few suspects other than a power supply issue---The ballast is one but not real likely if lamp makes it on even for a short time, Do we when the lamp comes on hear any high pitched whine or grinding or fan like sounds (not the fan itself but something that sounds like it?)

About the only other simple cause would be the color wheel which faces the lamp---if not turning, or too slow, of pieces missing it can do this---It will cause the set to detect no wheel movement or too slow and turn lamp off and set with it.

Look with lamp removed where the lamp faces--worth a look.

My RCA DLP seems to have a frozen screen.

Do some research as this model is also prone to the color wheel going bad---the high pitched whine or even fan like sound points to it.

Fan not working in my projector

First of all check the power to the fan and if present the fan is faulty. If not there is fault on the power supply or the control circuit. You need to check if the filter is clogged and the filter door is closed properly as the lid has a micro switch which will cut off fan when it is open.

The image and the sound of my Sony turn off for about 45 seconds and turn on for 30 sec. repeatively and the cooling fan keeps running and the green light stay open and not flashing. Do you have an answer...

Yes, answer is your lamp is reaching to end of its working life span and need to be replaced.
Above symptom comes when lamp got weak in result but has not been broken because lamp light will lit on broken lamp.
Replace lamp in tv if it has not been replaced in last 2-3 years. Lamp replacement procedure is written in user manual. Let me know if you need more help.

Samsung HLP4663W needs fan replaced.

Apparently I was in denial about the color wheel. With my son's help, I pretty much confirmed that it was NOT the fan. I could have replaced the fan after pulling the boards out to do the color wheel, but didn't want to shoot myself in the foot. I had my son hold the lamp saftey switch so we could turn the set on with the lamp access panel off. Then after the buzzing started, I VERY, VERY carefully reached in & touched each of the 2 fans to see if the pitch of buzzing changed, or if the fans were vibrating at the same frequency as the buzzing noise. It did not change one iota. So I went with an educated assumption that it was in fact the color wheel (just like all the posts in the threads had said). Our set was born in 10/04, and the color wheel was much easier to do than the one in the excellent step by step post that I found elsewhere. The procedure for accessing the fan (if the need be) is basically the same as the colorwheel replacement procedure, as far as removing panels & boards, etc, and gaining access to the fan (you can't do it just thru the lamp access panel). It took me & my son about 2 hrs (including the fact that we forgot to reinstall the colorwheel hood/shroud the first time we reassembled). We also didn't have that jumper to deal with either. HOWEVER, while the picture looks great for the most part, I think I may have to use the service menu to set the color levels correctly. The problem being with the black levels I think, because in a dark scene in a movie, shadows look blotchy, almost rainbowy in a somewhat pixelated sort of way. The new colorwheel came with a little sticker with the new CCA color setting values as well, but in researching the service menu access codes, I read one post where someone said that simply accessing the service menu (even if it's just to see how many hours you have on your lamp, without even changing any settings), will reset all your settings. I don't know if this is a problem for me, as I never changed the settings before, and never had it serviced by anyone else.

My projector makes a really annoying noise

It is also possible that the bearing is going bad on the fan. I'd look into getting a replacement fan if that's the case. It is probably cheaper than a replacement bulb that would be needed if the fan failed entirely.

Check that you replaced the lamp in the right way, and also that the unit is well reassembled, you may also need to reset lamp counter from menu on some model.

3 blinking lights and no picture

The whine or squealing you hear is either the color wheel or fan. To determine which, when the noise is heard from the set, turn it off and listen carefully. If squealing stops immediately then Tthe fault is the color wheel, not the fan. And sounds like that are generally the color wheel. A new color wheel is Samsung p/n# BP96-00250A for this model. Vance Baldwin carries them for $97.20 plus shipping. Logon as guest, select parts and copy past the above part number in without any dashes. Good luck... Bill
