When turning on my N64, the power light turns on and I have a standard AV cable hooked up, but the video will not come through on the TV.

Step 1:

So you've eliminated the possibility of bad cables. Now you need to eliminate the TV and the Nintendo 64 itself.

Step 2:

For the TV, you can try another TV or make sure that you have the TV set on the right input.

Step 3:

If you can't make it work on an additional TV and you have made absolutely sure that the TV is setup correctly, then you may be looking at a broken Nintendo 64.

How do you hook a Nintendo 64 to a tv?

You need the colored cords to hook up into the back of your TV, and you need to keep in mind that a power adapter is needed too to plug into an outlet.

Greetings bonebayhon,

Depends on what type of connections your television currently has. Most likely you will want to use an A/V selector to utilize the connections on your television. The best type of connection a Nintendo 64 has is S-video.

I hope this helps!

Well I think that its broken then like it sounds like a power supply issue or and a laser assembly failure so you will just have to buy a new one then.

Nintendo 64 HDTV

I am not an HDTV expert but I believe they are all backwards compatible so the fact it is HD should not be a problem. Have you tried a vcr or dvd player on the same hook ups? It is possible you are trying to use a video input that is already in use? I know on my TV I have the DVD hooked up with an S-video cable to "Video 2". Right next to the S-video hookup are the red, yellow, white RCA jacks. On my TV these can't be used when the S-video is in use so I have to have the games hooked up to the front panel "Video 3". I would disconnect everything and try hooking the N64 up in each input to see if you can find one that works.

Nintendo 64 problems

First try to be absolutely sure that the TV input jack is not the problem. Try hooking up the N64 to a different TV, or you could try to wiggle (gently) the connector to the input jack.

I have two of these N64's that the kids play with, and had the exact same problem. The input jack is loose on our TV, and we had to tape the wires at a certain angle to keep the connection!
