Okay.....This what it sounds like to me .. Your computer crashed your friend reinstalled a new copy of windows on your computer ..... and buttons don't work....

I would say that you probably need to get the driver for the multimedia featured buttons....
(the drivers are found on the company website under drivers and support..so to acer.com)

(or windows 7 don't belong on that laptop .....if it is a window 7 laptop...then nevermind!!!)

Installing a newer operating system on older computers, especially laptops, tends to cause compatibility issues like this. These problems are happening either because you don't have the necessary drivers to run the laptops hardware, or drivers for that hardware and the Windows 7 OS are nonexistent. You may be able to solve the problem by "rolling back" to whatever operating system the laptop was purchased with. But sometimes when these drivers are removed, by installing a newer version of windows the only way to get them will be contacting the manufacturer.

Trying to disable tap to touch after windows 7 installation.

Yes without that original Synaptics software disabling tap to touch will be next to impossible. Try this Win7 Driver to see if that fixes you up.

How do I turn the synaptic touch pad off on my acer aspire

This should be an easy fix...after many months of trying to disable touchpads on machines that did not have the one button disable feature either in the control panel or on the touchpad itself I discovered it was one of the function keys.

Press function (FN) and the "F7" key...press again to re-enable. Good luck!

Touch pad stopped working

I recommend you to uninstall and reinstall touchpad drivers to isolate the issue.
Press Windows key and R. Type devmgmt.msc in Run window and click on OK. Click on "+" sign beside Mice and other pointing devices in Device Manager.
Right click on Touchpad and select Uninstall.
You will be prompted to restart the computer.
Windows detects touchpad and the touchpad drivers will be reinstalled automatically.
You can also install touchpad drivers from your notebook support website.
You can reinstall the drivers from the below links:
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5920.html
http://www.laptops-drivers.com/acer-notebooks/download-drivers-acer-aspire-5920-notebooks.html
However I suggest you to install the drivers by visiting the acer support website.
Also perform windows update.

I would suggest downloading the latest trackpad drivers for your laptop from Acer. These usually address bug fixes like the one you are describing. If the problem persists it may be related to your hardware.
