Question about Cell Phones

My iPhone 3G does not charge at all (wall or usb on PC) nor react upon plugging anywhere when off (e.g. iTunes). I tried pushing the home and on/off buttons together for 10 secs and nothing changed. The iPhone is jailbroken. Could someone help me oe should I have to go to Apple store? Thanks Dennis

The iPhone 3G goes to sleep by default after it's been inactive for a certain period of time (you can change this period in the Settings option on your Home screen). That's just putting it to sleep, though. In some circumstances - like a very low battery - you may want to actually turn the iPhone off.

To do so, hold down the sleep/wake button at the top right-hand corner of the iPhone until a slider appears at the top of the screen.

This screen will ask you to run the slider across the screen to turn the phone off. If you don't want to do this, just hit the cancel button at the bottom of the screen.

When you slide the slider to the right, a progress wheel appears and in a second or two, the iPhone 3G will be off.

To turn it back on, hold down the sleep/wake button until the Apple icon appears on the screen.


One of the most common problems of the Apple iPhone is that it will suddenly be completely unresponsive. The display won't accept any of your taps and even the external buttons are ignored. Yes, your iPhone is frozen! This means that your iPhone is not operating as expected or totally not working. Your initial reaction could be... simply yank the battery to cut the power and reset the phone. If only you could! But before you do anything, it is important for you to know what causes these problems first.

I've encountered this problem before... I thought that Apple must have some sort of a contingency in place for lock-ups, and I was right. In this article I will state some tips and tricks on how to troubleshoot your iPhone. You will learn how to fix your frozen iPhone or other problems that may arise. Yes you! Really amazing that you don't have to be a tech-savvy person to do this. Here are the options in a nutshell:

First option is to recharge your iPhone. Charge your iPhone by using your iPhone AC adapter or with a high-powered USB port. Make sure that the USB port is high-powered, otherwise your iPhone will not charge. Your keyboard USB port is an example of a low powered port.. If you see the red part of the battery image flash three times and then the screen goes black, this means that that the iPhone is not charging.

If you're sure that your iPhone's battery is fully charged, the second option is to restart your iPhone. If there is a frozen application try to cancel that application first. To cancel a frozen application, press the home button and hold for about 6 seconds. You should be able to cancel the program that is locked up. Then restart your iPhone, hold the sleep/wake button and wait for a red colored slider to appear. Slide your finger across the slider, this will turn off your iPhone. Wait for at least 10 seconds then turn your iPhone back on.. To turn your iPhone on, hold the sleep/wake button until you see the Apple logo.

If restarting your iPhone does not unfreeze your iPhone, the third option is to reset your iPhone. Sometimes the iPhone gets so frozen that the standard force quit process for programs doesn't work. In that case, you'll need to reset the iPhone. To do this, hold both the sleep/wake and Home buttons together for at least 10 seconds. The red shut down slider will show up at the top of the screen and then disappear. Keep holding the buttons. The screen may even go black, but don't let go of the buttons until the Apple logo shows up. When it appears, let the buttons go and the phone will start up normally. The Apple logo signifies that a reset is well done.

Fourth option is to remove some of the content that is not properly synced. Your contacts, calendars, songs, photos, videos, or podcast are the examples of the content that could be synced to another device. One of such content may be causing your iPhone not to properly. Connect your iPhone to your computer and go to the iTunes site. Change your sync options for each of the following categories: contacts, podcast, calendars, etc. Click on iPhone in the Source list, then select each tab to change what content is synced, and then click apply.

Fifth option is to reset the settings of your iPhone. You can either choose to reset the settings and retain all content or reset the settings and erase all the content including all data and media of your iPhone. If you plan to use the reset setting and erase all content, you may want to back it all up to your PC or Mac. This option will surely turn your iPhone back to the state when you first bought it. So, you should use it with care.

Restoring your iPhone is your last option to fix a frozen iPhone. To do this, use the latest version of iTunes, then connect your iPhone. When it appears in the Source list, click on Restore in the Summary tab. This will also wipe the iPhone and all your information on it.

Fortunately, the third option here fixed my problem and I'm enjoying my iPhone again as I write this. There are many ways fix a frozen iPhone and yes you can troubleshoot your iPhone by yourself. If these options here do not solve any of your issues, it is better to go to Apple.com. The iPhone troubleshooting section of Apple's main iPhone support site contains a walk through for situations like this and other common issues. Apple logo on screen, thts it.it doesnt do or go anywhere..........


leave it on, so that the battery dies out.........plug up to PC, if Itunes come up check for new updates for iphone 3G........ this should reset it NOTE do not just pull the USB plug out release the IPHONE fron the PC (on Itunes eject the device)

My girlfreind dropped her iphone 3g into a cup of hot chocolate, her parents went out and bought her a new iphone 4... i put the 3g on the radiator for a day and it started working again. The only problem...


Any exposure to liquid can damage internal components of the device. I wouldn't recommend sending the phone to Apple because it will be an out of Warranty repair of 199, however you could try a third party company that does repairs of iPhones like iFixit.

hold down the home and power button until you see the plug into itunes symbol. Once that is done start up itunes. then plug you're iphone into your computer via usb. but not until itunes is started. it should prompt you to do a restore.

try upgrading your itunes to the newest version. also turn off your phone and then hold the home button down as you plug it into the computer. the itunes application should then recognize it as an iphone in recovery mode and prompt you to restore it as new.
Sorry you had difficulties with this. but when you restore it try upgrading to 4.2.1 and then using greenpois0n to jailbreak it. Works wonders.

IPhone Black Screen, and nothing


Plug the iPhone into your MacBook, make sure the mac is plugged into a power source and open iTunes, if iTunes detects the iPhone, re-sync it from last back-up ... This should make the iPhone crash, reset and be back to normal. If not, hold down the sleep and home button, keep holding it after the apple logo appears, until it shows a USB plug into iTunes sign, the plug the iPhone into the mac and it should happen as before. Apple iphone wont register a charge, resets dont work


It's not booting up. hook it to the computer and see if iTunes sees it when you bring it up holding home and power for 6 secs. then releasing power and hold home longer. Restore it when itunes sees it and it should work again.

Try hooking it to itunes then hold the home and power buttons for 6 secs. then release the power button and keep holding the home button until itunes sees the phone then restore.

ITunes cant connect/recognise my iPhone 3G


Disconnect iPhone and close iTunes.

Go to Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools.

Under Administrative Tools, Go to Services and look for 2 services.

Apple Mobile Device
iPod service

Both services should be started If they are not, start both of them.

Start iTunes and wait for it to finish loading.

Reconnect iPhone.
