HP Deskjet 6940 Color Printer Printer continuously blinks "red ink" spots and will not do anything. I've replaced the ink cartridges with new one and the same thing continues. I've unplugged computer and restarted and nothing happens...It will not print...just "blink' at me. I reset at the "green" start and the little red arrow flashes down and the ink spots light up and it "dings' at me. Noithing happens... What do I need to do to make it work properly? It prints well when I can get the thing to print...

    Your first solution did nothing...The little ink lights are stil blinking. By the way, Where does it show Insert Ink Message? I have unplugged computer at UPS and have unplugged printer from power...I will let it set overnight and try again tomorrow morning.
    Under soulition 2, I can not find a 'Command prompt' under the START MENU????

I saw your post and I will give a couple of suggestions.
Please bear with me if I may be repeating the steps that the previous expert suggested as I am not able to view his solutions.

Solution 1.
Reset the printer. (You might have done this a couple of times already but see if you missed something)

  • While the printer is ON, unplug the power cord and the USB cable at the back of the printer.
  • Restart your computer.
  • After the computer has restarted completely, wait for 2 minutes then reconnect the USB cable and the power cord at the back of the printer.
  • If the printer does not turn on, use the power button to turn it on.
Solution 2.
Clean the copper contacts of the ink cartridge and the printer carriage.

Ink Cartridge Contacts:
  • Remove and clean each cartridge one at a time. Do not leave a cartridge outside the product for more than 30 minutes.
  • Dip a swab in the clean water, and then squeeze it to remove most of the moisture. The swab should be only slightly damp.
  • Use the damp swab to clean the contacts on the cartridge. (1)
  • Do not clean the ink nozzles on the cartridge. (2)

Printer Carriage Contacts:
  • Unplug the power cord at the back of the printer while the 1st cartridge is out and the printer cover is open.
  • Lightly moisten another swab with distilled water, and then squeeze any excess water from the swab.
  • Use the swab to clean the electrical contacts in the carriage, located inside the product. Allow the contacts to dry for approximately 10 minutes, or use a new swab to dry the contacts.
Insert back the ink cartridge and do the same for the 2nd cartridge.

Reconnect back the power cord of the printer and turn it on.

Hi

Solution 1

Remove the USB cable into the printer and leave the printer on.
Remove all the cartridges.
Close the cartridge door and wait for the INSERT INK MESSAGE to appear.
Disconnect the power cable and from the power source supply. Wait for a couple of minutes.
Reconnect power cord and turn on the printer.
Return all the ink cartridges and close the door. Wait for the calibration process.
Print the test page to check if it working.
Reconnect the USB cable and try to print again.

Solution 2

Go to START MENU
Choose Commamd prompt, right click mouse and run as administrator (You should be in this command C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32- If not type this command when you in the dos command prompt "CHDIR C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEMS32\ and press enter")
Type the letter "cmd"
Type the word "net stop spooler"
Exit
Go to C: drive
Choose to Windows Folder
Click show content
Choose system32 folder
Choose spool folder
Choose printer
And delete all printing jobs pending
Again go back to CMD window and type the word "net start spooler"
Restart your computer and must also turn off your printer and then switch it on.
It will work fine right now

MY HP DESKJET 6940 PRINTING PREFENCES DOES NOT SHOW SERVICE THIS DEVICE TAB. I HAVE GONE TO THE HP WEBSITE AND REINSTALLED BUT IT STILL ISN'T SHOWING.


The single red ink drop is blinking and printer is not printing.
Do I have to replace both cartridges, earlier, only replaced the b/w.
Did not notice print getting dim before this happened.

I am replacing the #97 color ink cartridge and my printer left ink icon blinks and doesn't appear to recognize the new cartridge


Is the cartridge "new" or "refilled" ?

Remove the ink-cartridge.
Turn the printer off.
Disconnect the AC power cord.
Reconnect the AC power cord.
Turn the printer on.
Re-insert the ink-cartridge, and be sure that it is "seated" fully and correctly.

Which lights for ink mean what? I know the triple is color, but there are 2 single lights and only one spot for black. It is full but the first light stays lit and it won't print.


The left lamp is for color cartridge, the right is for black.If one of them blinking mean the ink cartridge missing or printer not recognize it.

HP 6940 Deskjet Low Ink


It is not uncommon for a refilled HP ink cartridge to register as empty. If it was otherwise filled properly, it should yield the correct number of pages, but you may not be able to get the warning light to go out.

You can try tapping the cartridge on a hard surface. This only works sometimes. Be careful not to splash any ink.

Put in new ink cartridge -- won't print


Try lifting up the cover. If the ink level is low in a print cartridge, the Print Cartridge Status light stops flashing. If the problem is not related
to low ink, the light continues to flash after the cover is opened. It might be that the new cartridge is defective. Check the connections and see if there isn't anything keeping it from making contact.

HP Deskjet 6940 not printing after replacing ink cartridge


My HP Deskjet 6940 is not printing. The color (left) low ink light is dark and the black (right) low ink light is flashing. I replaced the black ink cartridge with a new one but the low ink light continues to flash. No tears/rips in the circuit strip and all the copper leads appear to be connected

Printer Toolbox Not Recognizing New Black Ink


The Deskjet 6940 will only show ink level for original HP cartrdgies. Refilled or reman cartridges will show as empty or unknown in the toolbox. This is not an issue with the driver, the cartrdige itself has information that it has been previously used and this is not resettable. You can continue to print with a cartrdige that has unknown ink levels, you will just not get low ink warnings.
